Oblivion Question

First of all, I am not sure if this the right section of the AT forums.

Now, I am wondering if anyone has had any early experience with a beta version, or final version of Oblivion, and can describe how it performed.

If no one has any experience, then if their are any articles on the internet about it.

I am wondering because I have both and Xbox 360 and a PC and am wondering which platform I should get it for. Early on, I remember hearing that the two platforms at the highest settings would look the same. If this is true, then I would buy it for 360 mainly because I want to get some good games for the system to justify buying it.

My PC is an AMD FX 60 @ 3.2GHz with 2GB of Corsair TwinX RAM (I have two more gig sticks ordered so it will soon be 4GB), 2x150GB Raptors in RAID 0, X-FI Fatality, X1900XTX (overclocked) and X1900 Crossfire on an Asus A8R32-MVP RD580 motherboard.
Now if I can run this game at 2560x1600 on my Dell 30" display....I think it will look better on it. I know my 360 would top out at 1080i on the 30".

So which experience would be better --> PC or 360? Thanks.

There have been tons of hands-on testing done by various sources. You can go here and through them.

With a crossfire setup and high res of the 30inch dell, you'll like it more than on your 360. As per the reviews, a single x1900xt/x and a 360 were on par so a Crossfire setup should have you a fair amount.

It might run better on the 360 because it will be optimized for the system, but who knows, xfire might make it faster/and/or allow you to have better graphics. Just wait and see how the game performs on computer, and then make your decision.

Im sorry, I know this is bad to say but when I read stuff like this, it seems to me like either people work for their computers and have no life, or they just like to see their e-penis grow. I dont see how you can own so many expensive items that have been released to recently. For every single item you have listed the BEST that you can possibly have, and most of these things are so recent it implies that you have spent 8 grand in the last month in computer hardware. Seems unlikely to me, but hey who am I to judge, you could be writing to us sitting in a human flesh hand stiched love seat from your yacht in the bahamas.

With that said, the last thing I want to do is prejudge anyone so I say:

pics please! ;)

Haha actually I am just a loser that spends most of his money on computer hardware...not as glorious as you imagined...sorry. And beyond that, the company I worked for payed for most of it...I bought the proc, the mobo, and the vid cards myself and sold the mobo, proc, and vid cards that I bought with the companny's money.

As for the 360, I am not such rich freak that bought it off ebay...I waited 26 hours pre launch in the cold rain that was here on the east coast. My gamertag is Elite 6 and you can see my acheivements and games and whatnot.

As for pics.....what kind of pics do you want...screenshots I will do....I do not want to open my comp to prove anything...if it makes you happy...my e-penis is so small it is a vagina.

its not Haterade, its just that most people like elite6 just say that stuff for the hell of it. And thats what pisses me off. They think they are cool on forum boards, because they can say they own things they really dont. If you really do own that hardware there is nothing to be ashamed of elite6, you pwn. And your job pwns too, can you hook me up?

jokes aside, take your cam and take a ncie pic of your setup. I would love to see potentially the fastest machine you can build, hooked up to potentially the best LCD panel in the world.

I dont need screenshots, you dont need to prove anything, welcome to the forums!

Hah...well I understand the hateage I guess...I used an AXP 1800+ with 512MB RAM and a 9700PRO until recently...and everytime I would visit and forums...or go to my friends' houses, and see anything better...I would feel that way....and when I say anything I mean even if they were using a 9800XT. :) I guess I felt like I worked so hard and loved gaming so much that I deserved it more....but in retrospect I was an idiot.

You should try steampowered.com forums. You'll blow a gasket! It's annoying but what can you do??? Just think how pathetic you'd have to be to lie about owning computer hardware. Then it becomes funny instead of annoying.

....ok...wow, nvm my post...I will just use google more often now to answer my questions. Its people like JAG87 that ruin my month. I work hard for the one of the few things I enjoy in life and its computers + gaming. If it makes you happy I won't post anymore on these forums or any forums for that matter and I take back what I said, I use a Pentium 3 450MHz and a RIVA TNT with a 15" CRT....

Peace AT forums...sorry for talking about my new computer and asking questions on these forums.

I will edit this post later tonight after I borrow a digital camera from someone I work with and I will open up an imageshack account and post the link of pics.

It's pretty hard to believe that 360 will be able to outdo dual X1900XTs and FX60 @3.2ghz with 4 gigs of ram.

screenshots screenshots !!

screenshots of such beasts really do inspire me to work harder and make more money so i too can have a tiny e-penis and be most content with it if ya know what i mean *hint hint* ;p

but seriously.. a screenshot of your setup will make me wet for sure

Mmm...true, but sometimes games get platform specific enhancements. Beyond that, the 360 has 9.6GHz of IBM PowerPC power. And at one point I remember Apple saying their 2.5GHz G5 could outdo a Pentium 4 @ 3.8GHz. Therefore, one could be led to believe that the 9.6GHz (3.2x3) of Xbox 360 could easily outdo a 10GHz Pentium 4, which means it could outdo a ~8GHz AMD processor. My dual cores put out 6.4GHz. Now I know this is the completely wrong way of thinking about it, unfortunatly no FLOPS data has been published for the 360.

Now I remember ATI saying the 360 graphics core had more power then the current generation PC hardware (at that time was X1800XT) and was about as powerful as the next gen of PC hardware (now X1900XTX, etc are a refresh, so not really next-gen).

So taking the two statements at face value, and completely ignoring what 12+ years of computer logic has taught, I could be led to believe the 360 would have a better experience.

Screenshot or picture? I can get a picture as soon as I bum a camera, I can take a screenshot of whatever you want as soon as I am done writing the program I am working on and open an imageshack account (aka asap).

Lemme know.

Talk about your computer insecurities. Do they have medication for this? ;) lol.

Well lets see....you have the highest performing everything and you are wondering if you want to upgrade to something that doesn't exist? Games now a days have been a swap and go. Either the game pushes the limits of hardware, which we want, or slacks behind with mediocrity. You should be happy enough to play the game at 1600x1200 with all bells and whistles, even though an LCD may complicate things a little. Your primary concern is not the hardware; it's the scalability of the software.

And remember that populating all 4 DIMM slots for DRAm is much more demanding on the motherboard, especially for overclocks. You may have to drop to a 2T command rate.

You have too drop to 2T when populating all 4 DIMM slots.
