See my rig specs in my sig. I'm wondering if my 7900GS 256mb can handle Oblivion with the QTP3 texture mod installed. Resolution is 1680x1050. I don't want to download the 2gb file, then find out it runs like shite if I don't have to.

If you want HDR+AA along with that (Or maybe even just one of the two) then it's going to be rough. I'm upgrading from a X1900Xt 512MB to a 8800GTS because the XT still wasn't fast enough to hack it with QTP3.

I can concur, the QTP3 runs very well with a GTS. I play the game daily with the mod.

OP, I highly doubt the GS will run the game, with the mod, at that resolution. And if it does, it should'nt be perty.

512mb+ card me thinks.

Try QTP2 instead.
Dual 7900GT's (w/vmod) struggled with QTP2, but I had a lot of other mods installed too so it could have been any one of them.

Use this
Streamline 2.0

What it does is pretty much flush the graphics every now and then, and there are several settings. You can do it aggressively or very light. Saves very much on texture memory. I'd still recommend QTP II though.

You'll need OBSE for Streamline to work.

I don't think 256mb is enough video ram for QTP 3. With an 8800 gtx I CTD after 60-90 min using QTP 3 at a resolution of 2560x1600. The game gets progressively slower and thrashes then finally dies. Although it sounds like Streamline 2.0 may alleviate this for me.

I play regularly with Qarl's Textures Pack 3 installed.

*Looks at rig*

And my system ain't special at all.

Well, I did un-install most of the outdoor-based textures from the modification, so it ain't QTP 3 at 100%. But I do run all of the indoor textures without a single slowdown, including Caves, Dungeons and locations like that, Sewers, Prisons and so forth. I kept the rocks textures, the Aylied Ruins textures and some other textures for outdoors that wouldn't be on-screen all the time. But the bottom line is that no one forces a person to run the mod with everything it offers, and in such a case the game will still look a thousand times better than the vanilla version.

I played Oblivion with QTP3 using an Opteron 170 @ 2.6 with my old X1900XTX & it ran pretty well even at 1920x1200 with HDR+AA & all detail sliders maxed out, but I'd say things are gonna get ugly with a 7900GS, especially in outdoor scenes with lots of foilage.

You might want to try installing the texture pack & then lowering detail & view-distance settings in-game to medium ... according to what I've read this will still result in better IQ then high settings without it installed.

QTP3 isn't usually a major perf drain if you have 512MB+ of memory on your card. They're 4096x4096 textures IIRC. It's the 256MB cards that are iffy and maybe should use QTP2.
