NV users better hope these benches are fake.....still not like 35 frames is anything to get excited about.
And done on a single-core system.

Where does it say the test bed was single core? Either way, how much can cpu increases help at 1600x1200 4AA/16AF? I hope to be proven wrong.

Heh, maybe it's an early benchmark of STALKER beta previously named "Oblivion Lost".

Going by Bethesda's track record, I wouldn't be surprised if the performance numbers came out close to these, although this graph probably was pulled out of someone's ass. I honestly expect to be stuck at 800x600 with no AA, everything set to low or medium on at 6800GT@430, getting ~ 20 fps if I'm lucky. I can't upgrade until July, so I may put this one off until G80 is released.

If you've got a 7xxxGT/X or X1x00XT, you can probably play at a decent resolution.

Why do you guys think the game was delayed and had some shadows and other bells and whistles cut back? Even the mighty 360 couldn't handle it.

Well aren't ATi cards generally a bit better with DirectX, and nVidia with OpenGL? If so, I wouldn't be surprised if ATi pulls ahead, but man, if 7900GT performs no better than an X850XT PE, I'll be a little bummed. Wouldn't be a huge deal though, still plenty of power to play at very good settings. :)

I suppose it's BS but who knows...

What I can tell you guys is that PC Games (a German pretty good and reliable pc mag) playtested Oblivion in London on a system with A64 FX-55, 1 GB RAM and GF 7800 GT and it was super smooth in terms of frame rate in 1280*1024 with maxed out view distance for characters, trees and grass. Only in the forests the gameplay was choppy but once the view distance for grass was reduced, everything ran great again. Too bad the reporters didn't mention AA/AF but I assume it was on, judging from their experience and screenshots.

I agree. According to Xbitlabs, even a shader-heavy, GPU-hungry game like FEAR isn't impacted by CPU at 1024x768-- an FX57 might as well be a 2500+ Barton. So, at 1600x1200, I'd expect it to be the exact same.

One of the developers said that dual-core CPUs will give a performance improvement, but he did not know how much. While this is the first game coming out that has been built with dual-core optimizations from scratch (without a needed patch post-release), I don't see dual chips doing much at 1600x1200 with 4xAA. But I really hope to be proven wrong too, since I'm itching for a reason to buy an X2.

Anyway, i am going to finish KotOR II: Sith Lords before i even consider buying Oblivion . . .

Careful Apoppin, I know you just entered the world of RPG gaming and moving from KoTOR to Elder Scrolls is a HUGE jump.

I'm not too sure if those are real benchmarks, but it would make sense since the 1900's have way more shaders then 7900's and this looks like a real shader intensive game.

The game will be out soon (can't wait) so we'll see.

Yeah, but so is FEAR, and, while ATI easily wins, it isn't by 45%.

I wonder which setting will produce a more enjoyable playing experience-- Bloom with AA or HDR with 0xAA. All of the screenshots I have seen look to have HDR on with no AA and they definitely don't look bad at all.
