I'm pretty much a computer noob so any help here would be much appreciated.

I just downloaded Oblivion for my new machine and want to know the best drivers to use.

According to the computer shop techie the 6.10 Betas recognized my 1950XTXs, but would not ennable crossfire consistently.

The 6.9s did not recognize my 1950XTXs at all.

Finally we used the drivers from the CD included with my GPUs - they are modified by the maker (HIS) and are 6.8s. They seemed to perform well enough normally - my 3DMark06 score is inline with what it should be (~10,500).

HOWEVER, what are my *best* choices for running Oblivion and doing the following:

1. getting the "Chuck" patch

2. recognizing 1950XTX

3. ennabling 2 x 1950XTX Crossfire consistently

Should I try the beta 6.10s again? Maybe the techie got it wrong? What about modified 6.9s? I keep hearing about these "WarCat" 6.6s + Chuck patch owning all at Oblivion - but are there any that will work for me?

My friend's advice is to grin and bare my 6.8s with no HDR+AA for the weekend and install the real 6.10s when they go non-beta on the 17th - - but I'd at least like to run HDR+AA over the weekend. BTW if I get that patch, how do I do that again lol ;-)

Considering the card is new I would say the latest ATI drivers would be the best drivers. However when it comes to video cards I say this. Use the ones that come on the CD. If it works in all your games then dont change it. If it aint broke, dont fix it!. Thats my philosophy when it comes to video card drivers. Dont upgrade/change them unless you are having a problem.

Currently, you're only options are the 6.10 Beta's or CD Drivers til the official 6.10's come out.

so the only way to ennable HDR and AA at the same time (what that Chuck patch did) is to have the 6.10 betas work since the Chuck-patched 6.8s don't recognize 1950XTX crossfire whereas the 6.8s from HIS I have do recognize 1950XTX crossfire but do not have the Chuck patch?

LOL

oh well...17th isn't so far away...

If you can track down the guy that's been modding Catalyst .inf files, than you might be able to talk him into modding the 6.6 + Chuck drivers for you.
