I noticed they licensed Unreal. I wonder if this will be real-time or still that point-and-click, static scene-based movement.

Awesome. They don't make games like this anymore. I hope it's real time like realmyst was. I loved realmyst

Coincidentally, I started playing Myst V the other day for the first time, and I must say I'm not enjoying it. I'm really hoping it gets better, but so far it is incomparably the worst of the series. Unfortunate, since UbiSofts internal team did such a good job with Myst 4, then it seemingly gets butchered when it's sent back to the original studio.

In other words, I'm in the wait and see category.

Over halfway is a good position to be in. Can't wait to find out about those stretch goals.

I'm with you on this.

I got kind of excited about Obduction. Enough, to actually re-install URU, and start playing a bit. The game itself is alright, but the controls are a mess... Seriously, hold L+R mouse buttons to run? Your avatar doesn't do anything that can't be covered with WASD, shift, and space. Cyan's decision to make the control scheme needlessly complicated and awkward is baffling.

I never really liked Myst. Tried the first one, and got bored after about an hour on the island. Once the eye-candy wore off it didn't really do anything for me. Guess I was waiting for worlds you could really move around in.

Apparently you're not one for puzzle games? Myst was never about an open world, it was about being dropped into an alien world with its own rules and figuring things out from scratch. It's like anti-chamber only a little less recursively mind-bending. :p

Picked this up from GOG.com yesterday. Not bad so far. Definitely feels like Myst and Riven.

As an aside, I figured anyone interested in Obduction might also be interested in http://www.starryexpanse.com/ - a full 3D remake of Riven in the Unreal Engine.

Been enjoying it thus far. It's exactly how I would've imagined a Myst-like game being done today. Very well executed.

Just finished it. Perfect execution of a Myst series spiritual successor. I hope to see more from Cyan soon. Worth the price.

How long was it? From some of the videos I've seen I'd think it would be pretty long.
I saw one area in a ravine or something with huge gears and massive ancient architecture. I figured that would take forever to explore and figure out.

The other worlds or realms aren't as long to figure out as the mining town. I won't say anymore unless anyone has specific questions. I can give hints if anyone needs a nudge here or there.

I liked Myst and Riven for the physics based puzzles. The Myst pipe puzzle and the Riven steam island puzzles were great. I never bothered finishing Exile because so many of the puzzles were random guesswork. Does the new game get back to more physical puzzles?

It sure does. The entire world is a bit of a puzzle with the swapping mechanic, but I won't go much into that at this point. There's also some clever number system puzzling which I found fun. Brush up on your base-4 and hexadecimal!
