Syria looks to be missing its first deadline

"The State Department signaled that it would not insist that Syrian President Bashar Assad produce the list Saturday, the end of a seven-day period spelled out in the framework deal that Washington and Moscow announced last weekend in Geneva"

But wait, what did John Kerry say about a week agao ""We agreed that Syria must submit within a week — not in 30 days, but in one week — a comprehensive listing," Kerry said Saturday. He said the U.S. would allow "no games, no room for avoidance, or anything less than full compliance."

That threat of force sure showed Assad who's boss.

Oh wait, it didn't

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world...2bb828-1ca5-11e3-a628-7e6dde8f889d_story.html

"Assad also said if the United States wanted to pick up the $1 billion, that would help."

I dont even have to comment. The typical white house spokes people are on stand by ready to defend this debacle.

Are Americans killing Syrians, or being killed by Syrians? So long as the answer is no, failure is a funny word to apply to this situation.

Syria and Russia playing games is only a problem for the war hawks who keep looking for an excuse to see people, on both sides, die by our hand. My chief concern is in seeing America stay out of another elective war.

obama the piece of shit fails again. Why are people surprised? He screwed the whole thing up by making his BS about the red line and then switching his stance too many times.

I am with Jaskalas. It is a win as long as we arent bombing people to protect them from chemical weapons.

A lot more complicated then this, homie.

Countries came together after WWII to ban all use of chemical weapons. Any regime that uses chemical weapons will be removed. We're just trying to enforce this pact the world made together.

It's a complicated subject. Must more complicated than just "didn't affect us so why should we care?".

Obama removes the threat of force from Syria if it doesn't destroy its chemical weapons.

not only that but it seems like Russia will be taking the weapons and destroying them? LOL. Yes those super trust worthy Russian will destroy there buddies weapons.

What a fucking worthless leader. Even a 3rd world ruler Assad is able to outplay him.

So who did this deal, Obama or Putin?

We're not bombing Syria and I'm damn glad for it...I don't give a shit who stopped it. We don't need a fucking war.

Let them handle their own shit.

Well said. Even if Assad or the rebels eventually resume using chemical weapons, as long as it prevents us from being drawn in it's still somewhat of a success for us. And it will at least have produced a hiatus of sorts for the Syria people, even if it fails in the end.

And I agree with Hayabusa Rider that seven days was never a realistic time frame anyway.

If you wish to defer to the UN's ban of chemical weapons, then we may also defer to the UN not taking action. No need to take action on their behalf when they don't even approve of it.

This was not Obama's plan.

Why is he being attributed to this?

Americans do think that they elect a president who does decide everything...

And they do celebrate 4th of July - Independence day thinking that US is an independent state....

Countries came together after WWII to voluntarily ban all use of chemical weapons; it only applies to signatories. And we've never really removed any regime which uses chemical weapons unless we had other reasons. Hell, with Iraq we not only didn't remove Saddam at the time, we gave him satellite intel so that he could use them most effectively.

So who did this deal, Obama or Putin?

Obama AND Putin cut this deal, Putin because he wanted to keep Assad in power and Obama because he needed a way to remove his foot from his mouth with the least embarrassment. I agree with your sentiment though. It's horrible that Assad and/or the rebels used chemical weapons, but there is not one clearly good and one clearly bad side here, nor are there compelling reasons for America to get involved.

All the Obama supporters in the other thread said that this was the masterpiece of Obama's making. So those on your side should own it now.

My side? I did not have a side other than we didn't need to get into another shitty war. Obama opened his big mouth but got bailed out. I have never changed on that. You, on the other hand flip worse than Kerry when it comes to a chance to bash Obama. It was Putin's plan when you thought it made Obama look bad (your other thread) and now that the plan isn't going well, it's back to Obama's plan. Make up your mind.....

Yea he flips like flapjacks at IHOP, like a gymnast at the Olympics, like a grasshopper on a hot iron skillet.

My gawd Michal, we're gonna have to give you an award or something. Nobody in this forum has done as many 180s in such a short amount of time, it is an epic accomplishment on your part.

We're not going to kill thousands of people. Obama can do a back flip, sideways or whatever if that means it doesn't happen.

Those in this thread and the in the others who want an attack, or would have had one without this way out can suck it. That includes those who would have Obama attack because of Putins offer.

ROFLMAO. This is just another stellar success in Obama's presidency. We would be neck deep in blood if Romney were president. Thank you Obama. Mission Accomplished and no Americans dead.

Syria has destroyed critical equipment for producing chemical weapons and poison gas munitions, the global chemical weapons watchdog said Thursday as fierce clashes raged in the country's north, close to one of the sites where toxic agents are believed to be stored.

The announcement by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons came one day ahead of the Nov. 1 deadline set by The Hague-based organization for Damascus to destroy or "render inoperable" all chemical weapon production facilities and machinery for mixing chemicals into poison gas and filling munitions.
