Are you fucking kidding me?

http://www.foxnews.com/politic...ate-replacement-black/

The race to replace Barack Obama as Illinois' junior senator heated up Tuesday as Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., called on Gov. Rod Blagojevich to name a black man or woman to the seat.

By invoking race, Rush, who is black, drove a potential wedge between the prospective white and black contenders for the seat. Rush said it would be a "national disgrace" if Obama's seat were not filled by an African American.

Illinois isn't the only state with a seat to fill. As Barack Obama takes over the White House, he leaves in his wake a host of vacancies, and some are becoming the focal points for fresh political battles.

The Illinois governor has said he plans to name the replacement by the end of the year. That person would serve out the remaining two years of Obama's term.

"We don't want (Blagojevich) to short-circuit the will and the wisdom of the state of Illinois," Rush told FOXNews.com, after holding a press conference in Chicago announcing his petition drive for the governor to name a black candidate.

"As we speak, there are no African Americans in the Senate. (Blagojevich) has the power to put one there."

Obama's seat has been occupied twice by a black politician since the early '90s. Carol Moseley Braun, the first and only black woman to serve in the U.S. Senate, held the seat from 1993 to 1999, when Peter Fitzgerald defeated her. Obama then succeeded Fitzgerald in 2005 and served until he resigned last month to prepare for the presidency.

Rush, a former Black Panther member who defeated Obama in a 2000 race for a seat in the House of Representatives, said that he wasn't backing any particular candidate to replace Obama and that he had no insight into whether Blagojevich was leaning toward a white candidate over a black candidate, or vice-versa.

But Rush said, "We don't want to risk being silent in this process." He said he plans to deliver his petition to the governor by Christmas.

..... Read the link there is more blah

First, they need to end the African-American thing...it's getting old quick. I wish I could go around saying that the country should only have whites running it, otherwise it would be a disgrace to our founding fathers.

Great, blatant racism.. welcome to Illinois! Blagojevich has an approval rating of 13% right now so he'll probably pick a black man and his approval rating will shoot up to 65%.

Yes, it is getting old quick. But there is no reason that you have to say there should only be whites, since with Obama gone, there WILL only be non-blacks in the senate. You don't have to argue that something should happen when it already has happened. That is the real disgrace: out of 100 senators, none will be black and only 4 minorities. The only bigger disgrace would be to purposely replace Obama with a black solely on race. Yes, there should be another black senator (or several), but Obama's replacement choice shouldn't be racially motivated.

Update: I just realised one of the minorities isn't going to try for reelection next election. So, we may be down to 3, unless more are elected.

I don't think there should be any skin color mandate, meaning passing laws to force an affirmative action mandate for congressional or house seats. It's supposed to be what you say and do and stand for that get's you elected. Electing someone soley on skin color is racism.

Overt racism and double standards FTL. Public officials (whether appointed or elected) should not be chosen based on race, but their actual positions/qualifications.

With a black man as President it's hardly fair to say they will be 'underrepresented' in government.

It's a step forward, but it sure as hell isn't the end of racism. Or if it is, a lot of people didn't seem to get the memo.

That said, this replacement nonsense is stupid. Appoint the best person for the job, period. Despite the big deal made about his race by Obama's detractors (and supporters), the man himself acted pretty color-blind...we need MORE of that if we really want to end racism.

Bobby Rush...'nuff said.

Remember, this is the same place that Jesse Jackson is from. Some people thrive off racial tension, and if they don't think there is enough, they manufacture it.

If its not the end of racism, its pretty damn close enough to it. Who gives a shit about 5% of the population stuck in the 50s?

You want to act color blind? Start by getting rid of affirmative action, because as has just been shown, a black man can do anything in this country if he wants to.

It's amazing how blatant African-Americans can be with their racism and nobody says anything.

Consider the source. This is the same jerk that questioned whether Obama was "black enough" when he ran against him years ago.
This guy is a real piece of work.

I think anyone with the name 'Rush' is by some mandate of the universe, a fully qualified jackass and/or moron. That is all.

I'm not a fan of Mencia but he did say something funny just after the election along the lines of, "Well, now that a black man is President I guess black jokes are no longer taboo.' Face it, once you've reached the most powerful position in the world (debatable), you are no longer being held down by 'the man'. Get over it.

Oh? I thought it was a victory for everyone that brought the nation together? Or did I miss something? Change and all that jazz.

The replacement should be the person most qualified. It shouldn't matter what color he/she is.
