What bill is he even pushing?

(Also, that article doesn't say anything about HCR - it's about Afghanistan.)

The more people learn about the various proposals, the more they like the ideas. Ignorance is really the biggest challenge Obama has to fight.

Hopefully (but doubtfully) he will talk about one of the 30+ proposals the GOP has on the floor.

The GOP has been encouraged to propose and add many features to the health care bill, and then the GOP turns around and lock steps votes against the bill anyway.

In short, its a debunked GOP talking point and nothing more.

And yet, they have written over 30 bills of their own. Who exactly is being partisan here?

(answer: BOTH sides, equally)

Ive never understood why the GOP's votes mattered anyway. It seems you lefties are so pissed at them, you could get together and pass something without them. Afterall, you have the votes. But, unfortunately, the Dems cant agree either. Such a shame. If they got their shit together they could pass whatever they wanted ;)

Well we are pissed at them for going off on wrong wars wasting lives and treasure but the fact that the dems do actually disagree on some points tells you who is actually thinking in this argument.

The republicans are more like the armies during the revolutionary war:
Linear tactics- stand in a line and fire volley after volley at the enemy. Of course this doesn't make for much variation or intelligence and god forbid you get out maneuvered.

If you say so. The "why" is irrelevant in this convo. At least youre properly blaming the ones responsible for gridlock on getting a welfare bill passed - themselves. Thats a step in the right direction

I'm not blaming people for having different ideas. In the end hopefully something will pass with uhc in its title. I would prefer single payer and no insurance industry but I know that with the corruption in the system this wont happen.

Given the size of the insurance industry, I dont think we want to see it dissolve in the private sector. Unless I misunderstood you, that would be a death wish for the USA.

As Ive talked about in other threads, I want to see multi-payor UHC with maximums put in place (end user maximums). But thats been talked about ad museum.

Back to the OP, it doesnt look like health care is on the agenda for Obama's latest infomercial. But we'll see.

I'm trying to get a report done before going out for a bike ride and I haven't seen any of the "interviews." Was anything of substance actually discussed in the 15 minutes they allocated for each one? Any other topics covered? And where the hell is the Skoorb option?

-snip-

I wonder what the aggregate amount stock in these companies totals?

Then understand that that stock is likely held in many retirement plans, whether individuals' 401(k) plans or state and union plans. Do we really wanna wipe that 'wealth' out? Would we (the US gov) have to compensate these people/plans for that?

I'm not sure. I was unaware he was even doing a speech this weekend. If Obama isn't careful about doing these types of speeches too often, people will just blow off what he has to say as 'just another speech'.

/goes to listen to speeches to better comment on them...

He's wearing out his political capital and fast. People just tune his droning on and on out. You can try to pound a message the people don't want to hear over and over again and it just pisses the people off more.

Well, if he can pass healthcare reform (of some sort), many of his supporters will consider capital well-spent. If not, then things do not bode well for him...

I don't think its about improving ratings. Its about holding the support on UHC. Not sure how much it will help it go up, but every minute he's talking is one less the GOP is talking about death panels and Nazis. Its about as good as its going to get in this debate.
Obama will have spent a ton of capital in this fight. He may want to go on a media vacation once this bill gets passed.

Being pissed at the GOP because of Iraq is just an excuse. The left will never not be pissed at the GOP. They just don't have the guts to admit that its because the right opposes that the left wants to fundamentally change this country. There stopped and this pisses them off and as such they need to come up with some excuse to use to act pissed off. Else they would just sound like the whiners they are.

Also, what is the wrong war? Prior to the 2008 election, Iraq was the BAD war and Afghanistan was the GOOD war. Now that the left is in charge and Iraq is truly winding down (with no help from the General Betrayus crowd), Afghanistan is the becomming the bad war. The left has no guts when it comes to war. It hasn't since the 60's.

It isn't just the left that is mad at the GOP right now - its the center. When a party pisses off the center/moderates, they lose elections. Hindsight is 20/20, and the center has finally come to realize that Iraq was a blunder of the right. Sure, some on the left is beginning to see that Afghanistan is somewhere we shouldn't be. The center- not so much.

You talk as if the left has no stomach for war - this is inherently false. Give them a war based on solid principle (Iraq doesn't count) or one that is worth winning (Afghanistan?? - unless we do some SIGNIFICANT nation-building in addition to our current efforts, it may not be) and they most certainly will have the will to fight. This is why we need for Congress to stop shirking their responsibility and actually declare war when it is necessary instead of these half-assed "authorization for use of force" resolutions. If you are going to fight a war, we shouldn't do so if we are not serious about fighting them - which these "resolutions" show.

all you are doing is making justifications for political posturing...

I voted yes. I think Mr Obama will benefit from people hearing him explain his positions on the issues as oppose to them only hearing what the GOP and their talking heads have to say.

I think most people after listening to Mr Obama will decide that he is not the big nazi, socialist, commie, muslim, non-american do-do head that Fox News et al keep shouting he is.

I call shit-for-brains on your part.

Almost everyone voted to invade Iraq, this is true. The left and center started dissenting, however, when it became clear that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and the evidence supporting that claim wasn't just wrong, it was invented. We were intentionally lied to.

Talking about making justifications. Pot, meet kettle.

Why wouldn't you want the POTUS to try to fix problems with a region we have forces dying in? You'd rather it was a Rambo movie right? Just go in and kill 'em all! Talkin's for pussies! Kill 'em!

You're a fucking idiot. But you're not alone here.
