Read the Rolling Stone Article.

All the President has to do is direct the Justice department to make pot a low priority.

The President controls the DEA funding and priorities...

This is completely within the President's authority. Doesn't have anything to do with political parties... Doesn't require a vote.

AND I guarantee he could do it very quietly. Besides a leak it would take years to notice the statistics and last I checked Obama can't even run again.

Around St Louis, MO there has been a problem with pot drug dealers getting people hooked on Heroine. They will say they dont have any pot but offer some free heroine. After one try you are hooked for life. It will probably kill you in the end.

LOL! That is such utter horseshit.

No one who doesn't do heroin goes looking for weed and when he finds out the guy is out, instead of trying one of your dozen other weed hookups, says fuck it I guess I'll shoot up some heroin!!

Thats about as retarded as the people that say weed dealers purposely lace their weed with stuff that costs WAY more than the weed they are selling.

So people would choose to buy from a shady cartel dealer over picking up a pack at the local corner store if it was made legal? I seriously doubt that.

-You've quoted my post but replied to someone else it seems.

I'm saying that the corner store will be staffed, owned and operated by that shady cartel dealer. He has an existing source, supply chain and business model with plenty of start-up capital plus decades of experience versus the hippie kumbaya grow-your-own parade that seems to be championing these state to state legalization efforts.

All legalization without (that's what the word sans means) regulation/taxation does is move the dealer from the street corner into the corner store and does nothing for the American entrepreneur looking to stake his claim in this "new" market.

Will Pot Be the Next Obama Stimulus Plan?

"Forecasting firm IHS Global Insight reports that Washington state could pull down nearly $2 billion in additional revenue over five years, through fees on licenses granted to pot providers. Colorado, which would manage pot sales differently, could earn about $342 million from excise taxes over five year. In a tough economy, with voters staunchly opposed to most new taxes, that's a meaningful amount of revenue."

"But states can't really normalize pot sales, and earn revenue from it, without Washington's approval."

Is Obama going to provide leadership and help generate more revenue for the government?

Or is he going to continue to cater to the Prison Guards Union, the private prison companies, and the pharmaceutical companies all of whom contributed much to his election campaign?

Except that as it "legal grow" operations can produce metric tons of cannabis, they are making so much that dispensaries can't even take it all, and they are sell it on the black market. If it were legal that would be a gray market.

"Legalization has set Colorado and Washington on a collision course with the Obama administration, which has shown no sign of backing down on its full-scale assault on pot growers and distributors. Although the president pledged to go easy on medical marijuana – now legal in 18 states – he has actually launched more raids on state-sanctioned pot dispensaries than George W. Bush ....

"There are not many friends to legalization in this administration,"... In fact, the politician who coined the term "drug czar" – Joe Biden – continues to guide the administration's hard-line drug policy. "... "As long as he is vice president, we're very far off from legalization being a reality."

"If Obama were committed to drug reform – ...he could immediately end DEA raids on those who grow and sell pot according to state law, and immediately order the Justice Department to make enforcement of federal marijuana laws the lowest priority of U.S. attorneys in states that choose to tax and regulate pot."

Complete article at Rolling Stone.

Is the President voting present on legalizing pot?

People seem to think politicians are leaders. What really happens is that politicians are opportunists. As soon as they see enough people in the parade they will jump out in front and grab the baton.

What this means is that the people have to keep this fight up front and push from beneath, this will never come from the top.

As soon as a political critical mass is reached, then the politicians will jump out front and claim they were for it all along.
