Was reading about China's mid-east policy when I noticed something amiss:

A crowd in Libya pelted the Chinese Embassy in Tripoli with rocks and eggs the day after the UN Security Council session, and Syrian activists burned Chinese and Russian flags at a protest in Beirut.

In our past, we've supported some terrible tyrants.

Currently, that's greatly reduced - now it's China and the USSR in the position of defending Iran's ally Syria as they massacre their citizens, a bad position.

Global attention is on China and the USSR for this and they'll be under increasing pressure about it, which they should be - that's 'international diplomacy' helping.

Where the line is drawn between when these regimes are 'legitimately defending the state against rebellion' and when they are 'tyrants deserving to be overthrown' may be problematic and greatly politicized and corrupted in some cases, but we don't seem close to it in cases like Libya, Syria, Egypt, and we should support freedom.

Because the people of Syria are desperately rebelling and being killed asking for outside help, and the UN's members trying to help were vetoed by China and Russia.

Xi is effectively the president-elect (and vice president, and other things). He's just meeting the president of China he'll have to work with in his second term.

There are things about obama that I'd to club him like a baby seal (metaphorically that , is) however he didn't drop his marbles like Bush did with Iraq. Foreign policy wise hes a while lot better than his predecessor.
