If you are an illegal, oops I mean undocumented student.

'I did it all on my own': Calif. undocumented students get first grants

For the first time in California's history, citizenship is not a prerequisite for state-funded financial aid. Undocumented students in California became eligible for public funding beginning this year, following the passage of Assembly Bill 131 in 2011. It functions as the second half of the California Dream Act and opens the door for undocumented students to receive Cal Grants, Chafee Grants, community college fee waivers and other state institutional grants this fall.

Opponents call this an “open-ended entitlement.” These critics say the bill will incentivize more undocumented minors and their parents to come to the U.S. illegally. Others argue an influx of undocumented students receiving state aid at California's public colleges and universities will put more strain on the state's coffers. But that controversy has not stemmed the flow of financial aid applications.

More than 29,000 undocumented students (both incoming college freshmen and first-year transfers from community colleges) submitted the new California Dream Act Application this year. Of those, 7,218 were awarded Cal Grants for the 2013-2014 school year. Learn more about four of those recipients below.
As for the rest of you xenophobic bigots, plenty of student loans are available if you can't get these grants,

and if you protest enough maybe corporate America will pay you $15 an hour for your burger flipping job so you can pay for your student loans while the increase in your payroll taxes help out your fellow undocumented brothers and sisters.

Stuff like this would make me move. It hasn't happened in my state. I hope it never does.

People who go to college, get better jobs buy houses and cars, and grow the economy.

Not to mention they discover new drugs that save lives, invent new products that create new industries, etc, etc.

Restricting the lives of people who live here only accomplishes one thing, restricts the growth and prosperity we otherwise all benefit from.

But won't the eVerify system keep them from getting jobs anyway?

:hmm:

Oh I got it. After the taxpayer spends money educating them the next logical conclusion is to then let them work without documentation :awe:

ROFL.

I demand to see the majors that these illegal immigrants are working so hard to get.

I also want to see their pay scale over 15-20 years, the rate which they repay the loans, and the amount of total government assistance given to them versus what we recoup in terms of productivity.

Oh wait you won't want to discuss any of that. Easier to say 'college gud and make ppl smart' and lumber away with spittle dripping out of your mouth.

Let's just keep that modern progressive voter-creator machine running at full tilt. Don't worry, all of the responsible working people can pay for this, they have tons of money to spread around.

Really?

Hows this for a generalization:
People who are too lazy to follow due process or work for their money are going to fail at college and not pay their bills, crippling the economy.

And following the process of, "Doing nothing because your forefathers declared that you had to do nothing because you were entitled due location of birth," is evidence of the ability to follow the path to success?

Better jobs? WHO'S better job?

Meanwhile in the other thread it was "cheap food" (by working for slave wages for huge businesses that surely are only interested in helping out illegals, not making vast profits off paying illegal workforces jack-shit.)

Apparently so long as one wanders across a border into someone else's country they are automatically responsible for everything positive in the country. In fact, you somehow turn into "Super Human!" that no one can live without.

Sounds discriminatory. Why should people in other countries not have this opportunity? California should at the very least offer this to every citizen of Mexico. Why should something as arbitrary as a border rule someone out for an education on the California taxpayer's dime? Next, Guatemala, Honduras and eventually all of South America. Spread the wealth.

I certainly hope these courses will be taught in their native language.

Go big. If it's good, more of it should be better.

So why dont your precious african americans get off their butts and start contributing?

Or do you plan to boot them out after the mexicans take over?

My biggest problem with this is that these people are typically terrible students. In my experience at a California State University was that only about 10% of them could read or speak at even a high-school level.

They caused more problems and delays in classes than anything else, and they sure as shit aren't going to benefit from their Philosophy and Communications degrees.

I always march into other people's countries, hold up a sign declaring myself unafraid of disobeying their laws, rook their taxpayers into funding my education so I can then take a job away from their citizens by being willing to do it for less.

I expect nothing less than to be thanked for it... no, no, even that's not good enough.

I expect nothing less than to be held up as the savior of their economy and the source of everything good their country has to offer.

And if any of said countries citizens dare to say anything, you can call them as racists, xenophobics, bias bastards, and all the nasty words in the world.

It is sad that we (US) are taking in hordes and hordes of ILLEGALS (mostly are peasants with no money and no education) while million and million of educated folks around the world with money are waiting in vain. We are shooting ourselves in the foot.

Look at this thread... It's a shining perfect example of why this is happening. We have our own citizens up to their eyeballs in student loans with NO hope of every recovering, and what's the answer?? MORE student loans! To people who don't even have a social security number and likely won't be here 2 months after they get their degree in art or political science.

It's revolting how many people support these actions.

The progressive vision for our nation unfolds before us. These people don't think like adults, they think like children. They want, want, want and the affordability or consequences are not considered. We either restore sanity by whatever means are at our disposal or we swirl down the drain while the progs blame us for their mistakes.

What's happening in our nation is as serious as it gets. We'd better wise up very, very soon.

So, tell me again why ICE isn't deporting all 29,000 applicants? FFS, their home addresses are on the applications, and I'm sure they'd find additional illegals when they knock on their doors!

ridiculousness...

I'd rather give money to these courageous young adults than some tea party crazy. At least these people want to be American and want to be a part of our government rather than dismantling it.

They might not have American citizenship, but they're Americans.

Hold on...

Does this mean I can send my son over to the US for a free collage education when he's the right age?

He's learning Spanish now if that helps.
