They ask how he can relax while the world burns, wring their hands about "optics" (aka "how it looks to the average American") and recycle decades-old complaints about presidents enjoying high-end resorts and historically patrician sports like golf.

I would like Obama to vacation even more (although Bush's vacations didnt stop a lot of damage).

Also, even if Bush spent more time on vacation, less money may have been spent on them.

I'm mildly surprised that I have yet to read "well, he doesn't HAVE TO take any vacays yet he chooses to take them every chance he gets". lol

Does anyone really think that while he's on "vacation" he's literally not working at all?

Please, vacations for the POTUS are just tele-commute work days.

If I had someone who worked for me, and they were out for nearly a year, over the course of 8 years,.. I would be a stupid boss.

I remember when Bush was accused of being a loaf and all I heard from the CBDs was the rationalization that the President can run the country from anywhere. But don't expect the CBDs to see this as CBDs are all about denial.

President is always on call, no matter where he is. I'd like to think the president is relieving stress out on a golf course or on a beach quite often. Highest stress job in the world. Plus, Obama still has 2 more years of vacation to take ;).

Criticisms like "President ___ takes too much vacation" are pretty boilerplate from both sides. They shouldn't disturb anyone but the most rabid partisans for whom any criticism of "their guy" is completely intolerable. For most people (myself included) we don't care how much time away the POTUS is taking so long as he hasn't completely checked out mentally.

This. Even now I can think of very few positive things to say about George W. Bush (first that he rehabilitated Nixon by replacing him as the worst modern President ever and secondly that he has done an extremely admirable job of keeping his mouth shut post-Presidency), but I will NEVER criticize any President for their vacation time.

The President's vacation is nothing like a normal vacation-he still has to go through the daily briefing and still has multiple major decisions to make every day.

It's an extremely high stress job-look at how much all of them visibly age while in office.

The problem isn't how to keep the President from so much golf and vacation time. The problem is how to make him drag Congress along with him.

Some of you are missing the implicit notion of just how powerful some folks regard Bush to be.

Which is of course a double standard. Bush has to be responsible for everything, but Obama responsible for nothing because (of just how responsible bush was for everything).... it's lol material from the hacks as usual.

Reality is somewhere in between in terms of how much effect presidents have on their time and the future time. Somehow I expect were a R to get in office in 2016 that he'll immediately become responsible for current problems through the warped prism of the political clown crew. If you get a lot of self worth through political ideology then it's easier to just BS because there is plenty of stupid company to indulge the feel good idiocy.

Vacations, come on, really?, you really think either of these guys really gets what we consider vacation time off?

Yes, we're all aware he spends most of his free at fundraisers, putting party before country...even when his party wants nothing to do with him at said fundraisers.

In his first term, Obama attended more fundraising events than any other president in recent history. According to author Brendan J. Doherty, from 2008 to 2012 Obama went to 321 events, compared to just 80 for Ronald Reagan. And, as the chart below shows, he’s done 72 events in his second term – 34 this year alone. So far, he’s ahead of the pace of George W. Bush, who had been to 30 events at this point in 2006. In his two presidential terms combined, Bush hosted 318 fundraisers. Obama has already smashed that number with 393 events to date.

Considering the insane amount of vacation time Congress takes, I think the problem is how to make Congress only go on vacation if the President is on vacation and at no other time. They're on vacation about 5 times as much as the President, and when they're in session they spend little time actually doing anything.

Lol! Is this the rights new meme?

Since Obama has been dealing with the worst congress in histort and a party who won't even support things they once supported or things in their best interest, I think Obama probably isn't fund raising enough!

Hell! Based on the current DC climate he should have doubled Clinton's number of fund raising events !

Well, from what I've been hearing from the right, it's not so much how much time Pres. Obama takes on his vacations what with his Repub predecessors taking as much or more being the cork in the bottle.

Rather, it's how much they cost the taxpayer and when he chooses to take vacations that is the issue as far as I can recall.

Splitting hairs is a fine art that the Repubs have mastered and something that's worthy of envy and platitudes.

So with that, I tips me hat, take a deep bow and fart in their general direction.
