Actually, yes, he is. His skills as a public speaker are why so many people listen to him and WANT TO listen to him.

A teleprompter or cue cards are just a tool to remind a speaker of the points he intends to make during a speech. He's reputed to write much, if not all, of his own speeches, and as a skilled and practiced orator, he knows better than not to rehearse a major speech before he speaks. It would be obvious if he was unprepared and reading entire speeches. He's also very good when speaking off the cuff, as during a news conference, but it isn't hard to tell the difference between his spontaneous answers to questions and his perpared speeches.

Why do you think people constantly refer to his speaking abilities as being up there with Kennedy and Reagan? As with his intellect, integrity and credibility, as a speaker, he's one of the best we've had as President in decades and the full counterpoint of the turd we just turned out.

Public speaking with a teleprompter is akin to painting by numbers.

Not important. We must get to the bottom of this teleprompter business.

Yes, yes, we can't get distracted. Important issues require our immediate attention, like what that Limbaugh fellow represents.

All aboard the silly train. ;)

To summarize the complaints: "Oh noez, the president is human! Here I thought we were getting the second coming of christ, or something!"

You know, bush (both) and clinton used them too. So friggin what lol. It's the contents and words that matter, not if they have it memorized perfectly or not. I'm rather happy that my president doesn't spend his time memorizing speeches. That would be a TERRIBLE use of his time when there is MUCH more important stuff to be working on at the moment.

In fact I'd say if he took the time to memorize his speeches so he didn't hafta use a prompter, some of the ppl in this thread would be attacking him for wasting time that could be better spent on something else.

Man is a tool using animal and a teleprompter is a tool. And many politicians use them which takes some skill to master.
Probably the best politician at using a teleprompter was Ronald Reagan.

And at the end of the day this is just a Rush Limbaugh theme trying to take an Obama strength and turn it into a weakness.
As usual, the only contradiction in terms is on the Limbaugh side and those who believe a word the gas bag utters.

To put this gently - you are a new name here, and quite possibly sincere - there is an industry of propaganda to manufacture these sort of meaningless snipes for politics.

You should really not be wasting time on the teleprompter propaganda, and instead deal with the real issues Obama is working on.

At one point, I considered keeping some list of some of the countless such attacks, but didn't bother. But remember, "Is Obama black enough?" Or, "lipstick on a pig"?

Personally, I'm less concerned about the teleprompter and more concerned about President Pelosi's hand up Obama's ass controlling his every move. The man needs to grow a pair and stop doing everything she tells him to do.

Well, Moonbeam's got a timeout so I'll substitute. I'll make it much more succinct.

She reminds him of his mama. Extrapolate from there.

Think about it....with the Obama haters firing at him with blank rounds all the time, and all of it for ridiculously asinine reasons of which this thread is a perfect example, it must mean that they don't have any real bullets to shoot with. In this way, every time the Obama haters throw imaginary mud pies at him, they are by default approving of his performance on the real and substantive issues.

Also seems to me that the OP is somewhat disingenuous as his thread title is rather biased, suggestive and leading, yet his first comment speaks to having a neutral view.

yea and imagine if everything hes doing actually works lol. They have certainly backed themselves into a corner, not a good place to be if you ask me. I mean what if tax hikes on the rich actually have a positive impact? What if the stimulus and budget actual do work? I don't think anybody knows that answer to this yet but they all certainly seem to "know" that it won't work. The republican party could go the way of the wig party. What would they have to stand on? Nothing.

I'm not sure that it really matters. Show me a public speaker, especially one that speaks as often as Obama, that doesn't use a teleprompter/notecards/papers/etc. Being an expert member of Toastmasters isn't a requirement to effectively perform the duties of office, or even to successfully debate.

More talking points and FUD without any substance or relevance here....move along....

Its a tough job spending 3.5 trillion of our tax dollars (And China's money).. we can't expect him to memorize speeches. Although if he would just remember the phrase 'Its America's fault' or 'Its Bush's fault' that would cover 50% of his speeches.

Our President uses modern technology. This is a bad thing? Oh right, I forgot, your guys choice for President was the dude who didn't know how to use a computer.

Here are some more straws for you to grasp at. Keep complaining about the teleprompter, we'll be busy passing health care reform.

How are you PAYING for healthcare reform? While Obama is embracing technology, he is also embracing the problem of the 'technology' generation.. which is spending too much, being too much in debt, and then asking the government to pay for things like your house and your healthcare because you spent on your money on teleprompters.. I mean iPods.
