Two senators have launched a bipartisan investigation into "taxpayer-funded spin" by the Obama administration, following reports that the administration was devoting millions to promote the health care overhaul and other policies.

Sens. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, and Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., on Wednesday blasted out letters to 11 federal agencies asking for detailed information about public relations and advertising contracts over the past three years.
Portman said the probe is "not a partisan exercise." Rather, he said the senators want to bring "to the light of day" how much money the administration is spending to promote its own policies. ​

"It's a longstanding concern. ... The question is, what are they paying for public relations services?" Portman told Fox News on Thursday. "Sometimes it's legitimate, to help educate the public about something that the government is doing. ... but often it's spin. And that's the question -- is how much of it is spin, how much of it is inappropriate?" ​

I bolded the two Senators leading the investigation, so people will see this is a bipartisan effort. If Obama is not using tax money inappropriately, we should easily be able to find out. If he stonewalls their investigation, that would be a bad sign.

Happened during the Bush administration as well:

Senate pushback against the White House and how it spends funds to promote its own initiatives is not novel, however. In March 2005, Democratic Sens. Ted Kennedy (Mass.) and Frank Lautenberg (N.J.) sent a letter to President George W. Bush repudiating the use of taxpayer funds by agencies to produce and publicize what they said were misleading video releases. Earlier that year, the two Senators proposed legislation to permanently ban taxpayer funds for “propaganda,” and they asked the Bush administration to return the almost $240,000 the Education Department paid conservative commentator Armstrong Williams to tout No Child Left Behind.

The Senate has oversight on these things, so they look into them from time to time...that time is usually during an election cycle, but at least they do it sometime.

if the Administration spent a million dollars to "educate the public" about its initiatives in battleground states and proportionally nothing in solid states like California, that might rub me the wrong way.
 
Hey, I guess a billion dollar war chest along with a willing set of accomplices in the media isn't quite enough to get the job done, he needs to spend some tax dollars to help the campaign as well 😛

Isn't this what politicians do all the time? Their office gives them a platform to promote their ideas, policies, and what they have done. Trying to win over people who don't understand or agree with their policies.

He was famously loathed by the big people--Jackson and the Daleys. Daley would not endorse him up until the end of his fight with Hillary.

Every campaign he lost or won in local politics in Chicago, was very much against the machine. Chicago is famously corrupt and a haven of dirty politics of course, but Obama was the one candidate that managed to piss them all off, by essentially ignoring all of their entreaties from her earliest days campaigning.

I know facts have a liberal bias, but please give it a shot
