Obama tried to apologize to Japan for Hiroshima

Just so you know, a lot more people died in firebombs than in Hiroshima or Nagasaki.

this is true.

That was a tough time. I wouldnt say much of anything other then to read the book "with the old breed". It will put you in the perspective of the time.

I don't see the PM of Japan coming over to apologize for Pearl Harbor or the rape of Nanking, during which Japanese soldiers systematically raped and murdered about 3x as many civilians as both atomic bombings combined.

Pearl Harbor was a tactical attack on a military target, no comparison to dropping nukes on civilians. As for Nanking, that's between Japan and China, don't know if Japan has ever apologized, anyway two wrongs don't make a right. Doesn't surprise me that you bring it up though, since US (revisionist) history tends to play up what happened there for the same reason you are... as justification for Hiroshima.

Oh cool. The whole did/didn't need to drop a nuke argument has already started.

Anyway, stupid gesture. I have no idea why Obama would think that A) he needs to apologize 60+ years later and B) that they'd actually accept it. It's not like they've apologized for Pearl Harbor or even officially recognized the atrocities they committed throughout the course of the war.
This.

No sir, you are the fucking idiot for accepting and embracing a flawed justification that has been fed to the american public (sheep like you) over the years to make people feel better about the fact that their government murdered hundreds of thousands of civilians with the most heinous weapon known to mankind.

I just shed a tear for them, oh wait, nope I was just thinking of all the innocent civilians murdered but the Axis throughout the war.

I can't believe so many people still think that U.S. forces killing 1 million japanese civilians (~400k in the bombings, plus ~600k from the firebombs) was necessary.

The Japanese were begging to surrender, and Truman changed his story several times which makes it obvious it wasn't necessary to save American lives. Dropping the bomb actually cost more American lives than not dropping it because American POWs were killed. They would've been released had Truman chose to end the US military campaign there, but truman decided it was better to kill people because he believed them to be subhuman rather than to spare the lives of Americans.

Truman and the people working on the manhattan project should've been executed for treason.

The Allied war crimes were probably worse than the Axis war crimes. Just because you're the citizen of an allied country doesn't excuse the Allies for their war crimes.

Are you really as stupid as you portray yourself to be??? The civilian population had little or nothing to do with he choices of their Militant Government that was in power at the time.

FDR was going to make sure that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He pretty much forced the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor. Also, military personnel, espeically volunteers, are more valuable than civilian lives.

Hell Stalin killed so many of his own people he BARELY had enough competent Generals left to defend Russia against the Waffen SS.

Same reason the USA should apologize for the nukes?

*post may not reflect opinion of author*

I kind of figured that, but don't see how he could equate the two. Nanking is in China...why would Japan apologize to the U.S. for crimes perpetrated against the Chinese? 😕

FDR put an embargo on oil and steel which the Japanese desperately needed for their War machine.

Pearl Harbor is a perfect example as to why we need the Browne Amendment if we're to keep the Constitution. FDR had pretty already declared and executed war on Japan before they attacked Pearl Harbor. That sick little fucker FDR should've been executed for treason. If the prophetic Antifederalists had had their way this country would never have been in any wars.

It wasn't just that, he had sent naval ships to the pacific to attack Japanese people and did a whole lot of other shit to them. In total, he took like 10 or 11 actions since the first 8 recommended actions didn't do the trick.

The Rape of Nanking wasn't right, but 2 wrongs don't make a right.

I got a little perspective from my grandfather who saw some action. It's very easy for us to judge 70 years later with enormous hindsight and a largely peaceful world.

Where are you getting this information?

FDR was in a conundrum because he ran on a Anti-War platform but yet the Japanese were threatening our Allies and America Territories at the time i.e Russia,China,Phillipines and Australia

But is it true? If it's true I do think he deserves to be criticized on this.

I actually don't know, nor do I consider the issue to be terribly important. He did truncate the quote, however. There is a line at the end that explains why the Japanese official felt the apology was a bad idea, and it has nothing to do with refusing to accept the apology or disrespecting Obama. It's hardly the "embarrassment" that Spidey claims it is. Apparently:

The Japanese feared the apology would be exploited by anti-nuclear groups and those opposed to the defensive alliance between Japan and the U.S.

Anyway, my point was that since this apology never happened, it isn't a terribly weighty issue. It's just grist for the right wing talking point mill. And Spidey of course picks it up on cue. And of course, Spidey's posting of the bowing photo is straight from the tea party website he got it from. This photo is not relevant. Its point is to dredge up one of the most retarded anti-Obama talking points ever.
