This could really get interesting. Republicans saying cut, cut, cut, Obama saying spend, spend, spend.

In his State of the Union address Tuesday, President Obama is expected to call for deficit reduction and government reform paired with investments in areas like innovation, infrastructure and education. Meanwhile, Republicans say they are prepared to resist any new government spending, setting up a critical debate between congressional Republicans and the White House over how to best revive the economy and nurture its long-term growth.

"My principal focus, my number one focus, is going be making sure that we are competitive, that we are growing, and we are creating jobs not just now but well into the future," Mr. Obama said in a video message e-mailed to his supporters this weekend.

On "Fox News Sunday," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell dismissed the notion of government investments. "With all due respect to our Democratic friends, any time they want to spend, they call it investment, so I think you will hear the president talk about investing a lot Tuesday night," he said.

GL Obama. Hard to compete with 90 cents a day, places who let you dump waste in rivers and states who bust heads hence capital flight to those places.

"invest" is obamaspeak for "spend and destroy the country"

Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. Keep talking Obama, please keep it up.

Pure politics. It's nothing more than an effort to counter what "the enemy" is proposing. A lot of pie in the sky promises to try and bring back his base. He knows we're broke and his spending plans are DOA, but he'll get a lot of mileage out of his words from the usual suspects.

For two years he's been spending like a drunken sailor on programs that have been ineffective. Now, he'll renew his pledge to address the ills of the nation all the while claiming he's been successful and effective. <gag>

I won't be watching but I've never watched any of them regardless of whomever has held the office. They're all a bunch of bullshit.

He's already used up "stimulus". Now its going to be "investment".

Why doesn't he be honest and call it pissing money away?

So what is he going to cut in order to "invest"? Didn't he promise to not spend any money unless something else was cut?

From a practical standpoint, does it really matter if we go broke owing fifteen trillion as opposed to a hundred and fifty trillion? Why not go on the biggest spending spree in the history of ever if we know it's never going to be paid back?

This.

I'm sitting back watching all this unfold and laughing. It is all any taxpayer can do anymore to stay sane. Nobody in DC knows how to fix what is broken and the titanic is sinking while the band plays on. anyone for another drink ?
