Says a lot about it. He, being a major American Historical precedent, was a shoo-in. Anyone who can't see the importance of this has their head way too far up their Partisan Ass to really matter.

Right? No one even sued to claim that they actually won.
And I too think that we should wait to praise Obama till he actually does something.
Personally I don't think it is much of an accomplishment to be elected during this race. All you really needed was to not be a republican. I think the DNC could have run a walrus and like a bunch of oysters we would have voted him in.

The way the economy is the dems could have run Fozzy bear and won.

Time lost credibility when they gave it to Giuliani in 2001 instead of bin Laden. He may have been a monster, but Osama deserved it that year. Fuck hurting America's feelings.

hasn't every president been the PotY?

I believe Washington and Lincoln were inelligible.

at least through Kennedy (because that's when I stopped caring), looks like the only president-elect to not get Person of the Year was George H. W. Bush.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T...ar#Persons_of_the_Year

See 1990

That list cracks me up. Hitler , Stalin , Khomeini yadd yadda. Seems like it's 50/50 on whether you'd wanna be grouped in with those people.

They don't do it through popularity. They do it through how much that person has impacted the world.

Whether you think he was just blowing smoke up our collective ass or not, Obama ran a campaign based almost entirely on the idea that there is a lot of hope for the future, and that tomorrow can and should be better than today. That's a fairly unusual message right there compared to the doom and gloom and nasty smears that describe the majority of modern political campaigns (including the campaign of Obama's opponent). THAT, at the very least, made his run something other than politics as usual.

I wish Madoff (apropos pronounced 'Made Off', I love it) would have won it. He symbolized the greed and corruption of the Street on so many levels (clients and dealers), inept govt, plus he's the largest thief of all time.

Obama is just another vapid politician. I guess being black makes people who notice race a huge deal though.

Wow. I think you could have been talking about Dubyas first campaign, maybe Clinton or Reagan.... Its all old. Its all the same. Obama is nothing but a politician. You think the promise of "change" or " hope" is new? Its a buzzword used to motivate the masses.

They are all crooks and liars. Im hoping he proves me wrong but Im pretty sure he'll make the voters who believed look like clowns.

Everything we see is from a certain POV and you can clearly see raisford's POV when he forgets about negative ads his team ran (Ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXj4mEwM6PQ. Come to think of it I don't remember Reagan having anything negative to say either. We are all guilty to one degree or another but to their credit both were more positive and forwards looking than the norm that's for sure. I agree with you about Obama really being part of the established order, staus quo, or as I call him -Black Bush- will disappoint many including myself.

8 years is a long time in politics, I think that in the minds of most people, Obama's campaign stood in contrast to the 2004 election, which was quite possibly the WORST choice we were offered in recent history. McCain continued that "proud" tradition with his campaign this time around, but Obama did something different. I'm not claiming he's genuine (although I think he is), or that this approach is unique...but it certainly wasn't shared by the last 4 guys running for the office of the President.

And it might be slightly off topic, but I've always found the "they are all crooks and liars" to be incredibly pretentious and hypocritical. First of all, it's usually an attitude adopted whenever a guy you don't like is the politician in question, and it's quickly abandoned when some random gomer you DO like is in office. And secondly, it's stupidity masquerading as intelligent commentary. It doesn't take any brains at all to be an unwavering pessimist, it's just as dumb as the guy who uncritically accepts everything every politician says. The smart folks in the room are the ones who try to tell the good from the bad, your attitude is just lazy.

You should have kept reading -- they said why they thought it was crazy.

1) Obama lacked experience.
2) Barack is a funny (aka ethnic) name.
3) McCain and Clinton are political institutions.
4) And he's only half white.

Seeing a candidate overcome all of those things and become President is what made it a crazy election.

Seeing a republican or independent candidate overcome all of those things would have been crazy. #1 and #3 are the only valid reasons anyways. Having a funny name and not being white doesn't make anything crazy.

Really? How many people are still convinced he's Muslim because of his funny sounding name? Or that he must be a terrorist because of his middle name? How many lulz did we get from McCain/Palin rallies out of those things?

Any one of those things wouldn't be crazy. Even two of them wouldn't be too surprising. I can't think of the last time any three took place on a national stage. All four?
