I don't know who "they" is but most Americans lack any connection with the UK.

It shouldn't be difficult to decipher. They = politicians and press. You should be able to understand 2 simple sentences in series.

Most Americans lack connections with the UK, but many identify with it and consider it to be a special friend. This thread is a good example of this phenomena.

Many? Most? A few?

I see nothing indicating large numbers of politicians freaking out.

It's quite obvious that you haven't been following this issue. It's reported on quite often in the international and British media.

Obama has been repeatedly snubbing European countries. It's an incredible thing. A president with a true vision of the future. He understands that the United States cannot continue a meaningful relationship with Europe and must build new alliances elsewhere in the world.

...and does do it on enemies and agitators.

Iran and NK are ignored while Obams rushes to aide Honduran wannabe dictator. A week after Russia announces it will drill in the Gulf Obama unilaterally disarms nukes and delivery systems.

Homeland security is helping Saudi Arabia with its borders while Obama is joining Mexico against Arizona

Maybe next week Obama will offer China Hawaii as debt collateral.

It's clear Obama resents America and allies and sides with people who do not wish it well. He is the radical he appeared to be all along. This is what we get when we have a prez who cant pass a FBI background check

What a bunch of BS. Obama did next to nothing for Zelaya, is increasing the sanctions on Iran, there is really nothing more to do in regards to NK at this point and he is absolutely not unilaterally disarming the US.

obama has been dissing historic allies and embracing enemies since november...but, to draw comparisons between israel and britain is simply foolish.

britain has been dissing the US for far longer, getting buddy-buddy with hostile islamic states and protecting the arab league in the UN.

britain has also challenged the US on numerous foreign and international policies.

israel, on the other hand - compels to be an ally, and rarely challenges the US.

Oh but he really really wanted to (Help Zelaya). Of course when the military did EXACTLY what it was constitutionally responsible to do to do (depose anyone who ignores constitution for power) Obama had no recourse - which highlights how bad it was Obama made a fuss in the fist place anyway (while ignoring Iran riots going on at the same time).

Or it could be the US didn't want to be seen supporting a government installed by a military coup - we did that a lot in South America and in case you haven't noticed the people done there don't appreciate it to much.

In regards to the Iranian riots the US couldn't be seen as supporting them as it would undermine their cause and at the time their was still some hope of negotiating over Iran's nuclear program. If the US got involved in trying to overthrow Iran's government that would have gone out the window, and it might have undermined our efforts at establishing sanctions.

Holy shit, some Americans identify with the UK for unknown reasons you say? I suppose that means we give BP a free pass on their destruction.

Some British reporters say some shit. Imagine. Now prove any kind of mass hysteria.

Actually the alliances Obama has been building are stronger than under the previous admin. Worldwide opinion of the US has been way up. We finally are starting to shake off that Bush scum that was sticking to us.

How and when did Obama trash our historic allies again?

by gifting britain's leaders DVD box sets and comparing the holocaust to palestinian plight during his cairo apology tour.

our enemies have taken notice - look at iran, north korea, and even hostile arab states used to dealing with an imposed US now call the shots.

syria and lebanon giving orders to the UN and Obama. LOLZ.

what a lame president.

A fucking present to Gordon Brown is a snub to the UK? Is that the best you have?

Here's the part of the speech where Obama references the holocaust:
"The second major source of tension that we need to discuss is the situation between Israelis, Palestinians and the Arab world.

"America's strong bonds with Israel are well known. This bond is unbreakable. It is based upon cultural and historical ties, and the recognition that the aspiration for a Jewish homeland is rooted in a tragic history that cannot be denied.

"Around the world, the Jewish people were persecuted for centuries, and anti-Semitism in Europe culminated in an unprecedented Holocaust. Tomorrow, I will visit Buchenwald, which was part of a network of camps where Jews were enslaved, tortured, shot and gassed to death by the Third Reich. Six million Jews were killed -- more than the entire Jewish population of Israel today. Denying that fact is baseless, ignorant, and hateful. Threatening Israel with destruction - or repeating vile stereotypes about Jews -- is deeply wrong, and only serves to evoke in the minds of Israelis this most painful of memories while preventing the peace that the people of this region deserve."

"On the other hand, it is also undeniable that the Palestinian people -- Muslims and Christians -- have suffered in pursuit of a homeland. For more than sixty years they have endured the pain of dislocation. Many wait in refugee camps in the West Bank, Gaza, and neighboring lands for a life of peace and security that they have never been able to lead. They endure the daily humiliations - large and small - that come with occupation. So let there be no doubt: the situation for the Palestinian people is intolerable. America will not turn our backs on the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity, and a state of their own."

Where does he equate the Palestinian's problems to the holocaust? Did you fail to notice how much importance he put on Israel/Jews? Where is the snub to our allies in this speech?

You've posted some really stupid shit on here before but this tops it all IMO. Congrats.

Rational people discovered a long time ago Obama's speeches and actions rarely line up.

This is all so childish. People talking about tensions between the two countries? Geeze, are Brits really this pathetic? If this happened off the coast of England they'd also be going for the throats of BP.

Anyway, if they're annoyed because BP is such a huge portion of their pension they should blame the stupid idiots who didn't diversify enough. How many times does somebody have to get burned when a single company has its demise before people stop relying so much on a single company? Silly twats.
The UK has never been a real ally.
That's ridiculous. The UK is one of the US' strongest allies and will remain so regardless of what happens with BP. This is at most akin to a loving married couple having a spat because the guy stayed out too late with his friends and forgot the date he was supposed to have with his wife. She'll get over it.

Many Americans would sacrifice the USA for the UK.

It's kind of interesting. Many Americans used to question the loyalties of those coming in - Italians, Greeks, Irish, Chinese, etc. But now people question the loyalty of WASPs. Like when people questioned if Kennedy would be deferential to the Pope, the rest of the country is now asking if WASPs will be deferential to the Queen. It looks like many prefer that allegiance.

Some British reporters say some shit. Imagine. Now prove any kind of mass hysteria.

No, it is also their politicians.

Yes, he is building new alliances. His focus is in the long-term when the United States will need to align with the newly emerging powers.

So Obama is holding a multinational corporation (which has an egregious track record) responsible for the worst spill in U.S. history and this means he is snubbing his allies the British?

I recommend Danube take a few month break, come back and profusely apologize for the mind blowing retarded drivel that has been posted in this thread so far. After that people might read your posts without assuming you have the intellectual ability of a parrot.
