Obama supporters surrounded and confronted by McCain supporters

It's all good in the south

Are you freaking kidding me? Threatening a life because of who you vote for? That asshole should lose his/her voting rights if this is true.

The event maybe lasted a minute, two at the most, before police competently managed to hustle the two away from the scene and out of the danger zone. Only FiveThirtyEight tracked the two men down for comment, a quarter mile down the street.
"People were screaming 'Terrorist!' 'Communist!' 'Socialist!'" Sorando said when we caught up with him. "I had a guy tell me he was gonna kill me."

Asked what had precipitated the event, "We were just chanting 'Obama!' and holding our signs. That was it. And the crowd suddenly got crazy."

Clearly there is something very, very wrong with this.

This election has shown two things about race in this country:

1) That real progress has been made by many people to put racism behind them.
2) That there is still a lot of people living in the 1950's and 60's who haven't changed a bit.

I hope some surfaces, if nothing else, there would be police reports filed eventually, and those are a matter of public record, so.....

A lot of the Cuban population down here in Miami is fucking crazy and many of them are the most racist bunch of people you will ever meet. I am talking about true Cubans here and not the Cuban Americans. They are so terrified of communism that they don't even know what it is anymore. Hell, even their own children who were brought up under their wing and teachings will tell you that. They are standing near the polls holding up signs that say things like "Obama is a great person" in Spanish. I saw this with my very own eyes. Murder threats do not surprise me even in the slightest.

With that said, I will conclude by saying that it is completely unfair to blame McCain for their behavior. It has nothing to do with him. It has everything to do with Castro and Chavez. Blame them and blame the ignorant Cubans who refuse to let the dust ever settle.

I guess the OP didnt hear about the Republican campaigner in Florida who had his house shot up.....

Yeah, violence over who you vote for. Been happening for a while now.

This can't be true. Michelle Malkin and Dave Reinhard told me that all the RAGE is coming from the liberal camp.

Any evidence of the culprit?

Yeah or the black reporter who was told to "Sit down boy" or the reporters being kicked at Palin rallies.

Or maybe the black bear that was shot and wrapped in Obama signs.

We all know who's been stirring the pot with this racial and socialist fear-batiing bullshit and it's not Obama's people.

So take your crocodile tears elsewhere.

Ah, another koolaid drinker who thinks only those on the other side are being irrational and violent. How often do we see that......

I suppose this was actually done by the homeowner then....

And obviously the owner of the motor home did this...

No proof it was done for political reasons. He assumes it, and he's probably right, but no tangible proof.
What happened in FL was face to face, and clearly political.

Ohhh, so its like that eh. Well I contend what happened in Florida had nothing to do with politics, it was simply race related.

I condemn any threats of violence, but I also question people who go to the "other side's" rally just to stir things up. It was a McCain event - what were those two Obama supporters hoping to accomplish? Did they really think they would change anyone's mind, or were they just looking to cause an incident. I bet the same thing would happen to anyone waving McCain signs at an Obama rally. Anger is bipartisan.

No, I am not saying that, I am just saying it's very, very clear what happened at the rally, and not so clear at the house. I would definitely assume the same thing as the homeowner, I could be wrong though, without definite proof.

Terrible stuff, no matter who does it.

On a semi-related matter I had a discussion recently with a fellow Obama volunteer. He's from the South (South Carolina) and said the threat of violence is so great down there that many Obama supporters he personally knows will not identify themselves as Obama supporters, even on phone surveys. They are keeping quiet but will vote for Obama. Kind of a reverse Bradley effect, in a way.

One of my good friends is working as an organizer for a non-partisan environmental campaign for Green Corps. She attended a Republican rally in St. Louis a few weeks back, and in the process of trying to hand out literature about environmental issues that need adressing and attempting to question McCain as to his stance on these issues, she was repeatedly threatened with violence and told that she would be beaten or killed if she didn't stop. This was over environmental literature that made no mention of EITHER candidate (not even Bush), yet the association of environmentalism with Democrats was enough to cause people there to threaten her (a tiny little woman) with death. The irrational hatred, anger and violence that gets stirred up in the name of politics is sometimes difficult to fathom.

Ah, more angry and desperate McCain Republicans threatening violence and shouting names. Yes, keep it up fools, your party will be unelectable for years to come.

Let's talk about this for a moment. What you have here is a bunch of extremely terrified and brutally angry Cubans attacking people for supporting Obama because they think he is a socialist/communist/terrorist. They feel this way because of their history that they experienced thanks to Castro and communist/facist cuba. They left to get away from that horrible country and their horrible leader that forced them to endure unthinkable things and now this is what they are showing that they have learned?

Fucking bullshit. I don't care who you are, where you came from, and what was done to you while you were there. Don't bring your hypocritical life threatening bullshit with you to this country that goes 100% against what you feel so strongly about in the first place. Granted, the Obama supporters in this story didn't exactly come equipped with halos over their heads, but whatever. They did nothing to merit this kind of reaction at all.

They are basically threatening the lives of others that are doing nothing but exercising their right to free speech. I wonder how they would feel if someone did the same to them....oh wait...THAT ALREADY FUCKING HAPPENED WHEN THEY WERE LIVING IN CUBA UNDER CASTRO!
