Deal was announced today by the state department. Looks like it is going through.

"This is not solely about Iran," Shapiro said. "It's about helping the Saudis with their legitimate security needs ... they live in a dangerous neighborhood and we are helping them preserve and protect their security."

The United States plans to sell up to $60 billion worth of military aircraft to Saudi Arabia, the U.S. State Department announced on Wednesday in a move designed to shore up a region overshadowed by Iran.
Andrew Shapiro, the assistant secretary of state for political-military affairs, told a news conference the U.S. administration did not anticipate any objections to the sale from Israel

Looks like Saudi Arabia will be looking to upgrade their Navy next:
U.S. officials are also discussing a possible deal to upgrade Saudi Arabia's navy, which one official estimated could be worth an additional $30 billion.

As long as we keep the best for ourselves and put a kill switch on every piece of equipment we sell so we could turn it off if ever used against us, I'm all for it.

Don't have to. The Saudis aren't very good at keeping them in shape. They have the money to buy expensive toys, not the knowledge to keep them running.

Apparently the only nation we need to get approval from.

So let's see how this works. The Saudis invest in Fox news. Obama approves arms sales.

OMG OBAMA IS WORKING FOR FOX NEWS!

How about this one. Since Obama is a muslim, he's willing to sell arms to the Saudis but blocked the sales of the Apache Longbow to Israel.

Ok, Obama is a muslim hired by the Saudis who bought stock in Fox so Obama would make a big deal of the mosque and drive up Fox's viewership while not selling the Longbow to Israel but was bribed to make the arms deal to the Saudis by Murdock.

It's perfect. 😀

The conspiracy deepens. My head hurts just reading that 🙂.

The Saudis will be buying the arms from someone, so I'd rather have the $60 billion go to US workers than to Russia or China.

Also, the more funding Russia and China get from arms sales, the more they can afford to spend on military R&D. So this helps our national security in a roundabout way.

hai guys dont foegetz obama puled the trigger on 9/11 cuz he news dat bush would fuck up so bads a black man can be presidents.

The Obama administration will soon notify Congress of an arms package for Saudi Arabia worth up to $60 billion, U.S. officials said on Monday, a potentially record-breaking deal that may help counter Iran's growing regional muscle.

"It's ... massive," said Andrew Exum, an analyst at the Center for a New American Security, calling the long-anticipated deal a "shot-in-the-arm" for the U.S. defense industry.

Switched position of the dot dot dot for additional hilarity.

Looks like Saudi Arabia will be looking to upgrade their Navy next:

Note: According to The Great Google, at the moment The Saudi Navy has 7 Frigates (2 classes - half and 1/4 the size of a US Destroyer**), 4 Corvettes, 9 Patrol Boats, 3 Minesweepers, and a couple supply ships. Judging by the stacks visible in the pictures I saw, these are all dinosaur burners.

So suitable for patrol duty in the Gulf, but not much more than that.

**Current US Destroyers are larger and nastier than what used to be called Cruisers. So the Saudi ships are a couple sizes

Wait, 8 of ten were Saudis and the entire reason as proclaimed by Bin Laden was involvement in SA and you are HELPING them while proclaiming that Muslims, all Muslims are bad?

I'll never get the US politics... Next time it will be more Saudis but then again, you can't attack SA... so perhaps Iceland? Something for RabidMongoose to think about perhaps...

That is indeed perfect.

I support this completely. It will also reduce our need to protect Saudi Arabia.

I wouldn't go that far. The F-15 is still very capable against most of what's out there. Could even give an F-35 a run for it's money IMO. F-22 would blow it out of the sky, but that goes for everything else up there too. :awe:

Everyone looks into the hardware that is sold. Here's a newsflash. They don't know how to use them. Do you think Their pilots are going to be able to just jump in and use the damn things? Sure they'll know the basics. Flying, crashing into buildings, ect, but they have nowhere near the training, tactics or experience that the US does.
Plus since they don't have carriers, they don't really have a way of sending a bunch of old school fighters half way around the globe to attack us.

I hope we didn't sell them to Prince Walid bin Talal. Just think what kind of damage he could do with those weapons and FOX news.

You see why I'm skeptical of government now?

Everyone should always be sceptical of governmental control in all ways, that is the only way to maintain control but you're skating on thin ice when justifying it by looking at Kingdoms and dictatorships as opposed to democratically elected governments.

See, a democracy elect politicians, these are supposed to be the best of the best, the best we have to offer to lead our nations with regard to what is best for the nation and the people while dictatorships are there to do what is best for the dictatorship, same with the king of SA.

So no, i don't think i do know what you are saying about it? It's the health care thing you are talking about i presume? You do realise that you still pay more for less care as a nation, right, that you pay more tax money per capita than France or the UK for health care and then you have insurance costs that are three times that to even get the care anyway...

There is no denying that the health care system in the US costs four times as much per capita as other socialised systems whle providing care to less people.

We need the sales but , domestic manufacturing built around weapons of destruction and supply the world with these weapons . Is't the direction that 21st man should be heading . We have all kinds of topics here. One of which is how the world has passed us by in education . So OK the world is educated. Rep and Dems here think their the smartest people on EARTH . Yet they the appluad scaling up the war machine .
Its not about being smart its about MONEY . Its not about being a moral society . Its about MONEY . Its not about a better World or America . Its about MONEY.
99% of the people are about self interest and pure hardcore Greed .
So YOU are unfixable . Until you stand up and just say NO MORE. Your broken , But not in your mind your just fine because you live in a lie with 99% of world population sharing your twisted view of Who you really are . Truely sad .

This post made no sense. I've seen more coherent ramblings out of homeless people on the street.

Correct. It also gives ultimate American control of their army. Shortly after the moment US decides to stop supporting them with parts/training nothing will fly, just like the case with Iran (which has F-14 but not enough parts to get them airborne).

I don't see any downside to this. Perhaps this is admitting how Arabs can't possibly live in a democraticized way, so better reinforce a strong regime which will keep the street in check. You do this by selling them weapons.
