I've worked radio maintenance and avionics maintenance for almost four decades, and also hold an amateur radio license. I daresay I know more of the RF spectrum and its uses than you know of your own nether regions. The difference is that everyone knows Republicans are uptight assholes. Democrats, especially in this forum, are vaunted as defenders of all that is good in the world. The issue has nothing to do with being uptight. it has to do with respecting the rights of parents to decide what their children are exposed to.

Are you serious? Parents were perfectly fine with their children watching a TV show involving things like crime, drugs, profanity and violence, but are suddenly unable to deal with some side-boob?

I think it has more to do with the bible. Somehow Christians and Jews got the idea that violence is perfectly acceptable while sex is evil.

China is the same way... except if it's art and not on TV or is a sex toy in a drug store.

It's actually pretty interesting to watch an "edited" movie/show - blood, guts, violence, swearing, etc are not edited out. But anything showing any part of the female or male anatomy is blurred [ie: motel sex scene in the movie Sideways] or is edited out [Spartacus: Blood and Sand nudity or sexual references are edited out].

I would think violence and profanity would actually be more harmful than nudity...

What we need is for parents to do some God damned parenting and stop relying on someone else to do it for them. Don't want your kids to have childhood beliefs? Don't let them. Don't want your kids to watch stupid sitcoms and soap operas? Don't let them.

I would much rather have parents be responsible for not allowing their kids to watch things that they don't approve of than to make content providers responsible for not offending anyone with their content.

Is the current rating system not enough? Parents should be parenting and they should not let their kids watch anything with a TV-MA rating. No need for further regulation.

I do think it's hilarious that these days you can say almost anything on tv except for things like Jesus, the F word, and the C word. I think almost anything else is fair game.

There are plenty of other countries that aren't even religious, but are just as uptight about sex. Likewise, there are Christian countries that are much more liberal on the issue. In Italy the most popular TV show for years was an amateur strip tease contest. Personally, I'd watch that over American Idol anytime.

A quick internet search shows that NYPD Blue is rating TV-MA.

If parents are concerned with the content their children see, they should pay attention to the rating. It even shows a sub-rating of why it received that rating (violence, sex, etc).

Seriously...if a parent sees that a show is rated TV-MA and lets their kid watch it anyway...they forfeit all right to whine about the content. They are clearly unintelligent and/or hypocritical.
