Going for the sympathy vote? Trying to rally his dwindling supporters? Admitting defeat? Who knows, but one thing is for sure, he KNOWS he's in deep trouble with the voters. I'll lean more towards trying to rally base like he's been doing, but funny thing is it's having the opposite effect. He thinks American's still just aren't getting his grand vision. Maybe he should explain it more?

No Mr. President, we see it loud and clear, we REJECT it.

President Barack Obama said he “absolutely” is the underdog heading into his re-election race, given the sagging economy that has occurred on his watch. “I don’t mind. I’m used to being an underdog,” he said in an interview with ABC News that was carried live on Yahoo News’ Web site.

But he said that Americans will re-elect him because they will see he has “a vision for the future that can actually help ordinary families recapture that American dream.”

Simple ask yourself if America is better off than it was 4 years ago.
If the answer is 'yes' then he deserves a 2nd term.
If the answer is 'no' then he doesn't deserve reelected.

Frankly, I am getting sick of tired of the Democrats implying (or flat out saying) that we (the American people) are too stupid to understand what they are doing and if they simply explained it to us in a way we understand than we will embrace their policies.

I was sick of his bullshit the first time around.
This time it should be very obvious to the nation of dummies we have.

Of course, I said that in 2000 and 2004 as well.

How is that strictly a Democrat Party issue? The same happened with GW and how it was said over and over history would judge him on what he had put in place and now was too soon.

Sounds like politics to me. Both parties are equally guilty to the same degrees.

Only if the election was a yes/no referendum on the current office holder. But since we're going to be picking someone ELSE to fill the role, we should probably also ask ourselves whether we think we'll be better off in 4 years under THAT person than Obama. Oversimplifying situations is rarely the smart move...

And *I'm* getting pretty sick of Republicans claiming they speak for "the American people". You're some random dude on the Internet, just like the rest of us. You don't have any special insight into what people in general are thinking. Particularly when "the American people" includes me just as much it includes you.

Personally I do think Democrats are (as usual) doing a bad job selling their viewpoints. Ironically, I think it's because they respect their audience enough NOT to always boil down complex issues into bumper sticker quotes the way Republicans often seem to.

I think it is just a tool to rally his base. They really went out and sold him in '08, much moreso than I have seen for any candidate in the last 15+ years.

To me it looks like he will be re-elected simply because the Republicans are too willing to appease the Tea Partiers with their candidates.

Obama won't be able to rally his base unless he actually puts out. Running as centrist and governing as a rightwinger did not endear him to the folks he needs to get himself reelected.

Good, at least he realizes that it won't be a cakewalk. He will put forth the effort required for him to possibly see a second term. If he didn't assume himself to be the underdog in this situation, then he truly does not have the foresight for a second term. Better safe than sorry (a teabagger gets put in the White house).

I dont think Obama is an underdog. I dont think this current cast of republican candidates (save Romney) has a shot in hell in winning a general election.

Just goes to show what a cluster the government is in this country. Obama should be sent packing next year but with the assholes the republicans have put forward there's a great chance it could be a tight election. The lot of them should resign.

We're completely fucked, doesn't matter who wins. The extend and pretend economy CONgress and banks gave us is over 30 years is coming to an end.

They've got a point about the populace being stupid. We're neck-deep in short-sighted idiocy in this nation.

Oh'Bamah had a Super Majority, and everyone is now voting for the other party. The people have spoken and no one wants his communist fascist propaganada.

You become the under dog when your economic policies are deemed a failure.

Obama should know this. When the housing market melted down the banking industry. Republicans economic policy was deemed a failure. McCain became instant under dog. Now, nearly 4 years later Obama's economic policy has failed to live up to the promises in any way shape or form. He made his bed, now he needs to lay in it.
