Why does the US need to fund offshore drilling? This is just stupid. Oil is the modern gold mine. It pays for itself in, at most, 2 years.

I'm sure Soros being a big investor has no bearing on this:

"Soros hedge fund invests $811m to buy Petrobras stake
August 15, 2008

London: Billionaire investor George Soros bought an $811 million stake in Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) in the second quarter, making the Brazilian state-controlled oil company his investment fund?s largest holding.

As of June 30, the stake in Petrobras, as the Rio de Janeiro-based oil producer is known, made up 22 per cent of the $3.68 billion of stocks and American depositary receipts held by Soros Fund Management, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Petrobras has since slumped 28 per cent?

In November, Petrobras announced the discovery of Tupi, a field with as much as 8 billion barrels of reserves, making it the largest find in the Americas since 1976.

?Petrobras has something that other oil companies don?t have: oil ? lots of it and they?re going to find more,? said Ricardo Kob-ayashi, equity fund manager with UBS Pactual in Rio de Janeiro?

Tupi is part of a new deepwater offshore region known as the pre-salt that may contain as much as 50 billion barrels, according to Peter Wells, oil analyst with the UK?s Neftex Petroleum Consultants.

The drop in Petrobras? US-traded common shares since June 30 would have reduced the value of Soros?s disclosed stake by $235 million.

Soros Fund Management didn?t report holding any Petrobras shares at the end of the first quarter. It did disclose much smaller stakes in the Brazilian oil company during 2007, including 150,000 depositary shares, with a market value of about $17.3 million at December 31.

The hedge fund company also had calls on another 35,000 shares at December 31?"

Just so I am clear, we are loaning money to Brazil (or some Brazilian company) that we are borrowing from China because we are broke while we are stopping domestic companies from paying the US Government craptons of money (directly and indirectly) to drill oil off of our own shore? Makes perfect sense.

Oh, well, I'll be, seems that W isn't the only one who used oil to benefit his friends.

Seems that Obama's buddy George Soros repositioned his Brazil Oil investments days before the funding. The new investment will give him 10% more in dividends.

That would be 100% incorrect.

Here is the news release from May 7, 2009, on the approval of the Petrobas project.

So you and your 'Hot Air' blog would be ..... full of hot air ?

Don't you feel silly, now?

hehehe I know you're being sarcastic but lots of folks are employed from that oil too. Keep it flowing till it runs out is not all that bad and Obama's tact is, imo, a form of stimulus.

So, if he didn't do off-shore drilling, you'd be ragging on him for blocking our energy independence. And now that you think that (at least in a limited way) he's supporting off-shore drilling, you attack him as a hypocrite. I guess Obama never had a chance with you and your ilk whatever he did or does.

What mini-minds like yours cannot possibly hope to understand is that intelligent people are flexible. Even the most ardent environmentalist understands that our very human existence puts a burden on the environment. Land used for crops and homes displaces habitat.

According to you, if you oppose offshore drilling, that's a 100% position. If you oppose nuclear power plants, that's a 100% position. If you are against cruelty to animals, you can't possibly wear leather or eat meat, because those would be less than 100% positions.

Your life as a fool must be very simple - you just decide on the direction you want to go and never think about it again. No point in straining your brain.

I would spend more time on this thread trying to educate you. But your responses are too predictable, and I get bored. Yawn.
