Obama "recklessly spending" says House Republican Whip Eric Cantor

child of wonder

TARP was enacted before Obama took office. The bailouts of GM and Chrysler were under his watch, but I think support for those programs were pretty high because of the underlying manufacturing and logistical infrastructure that also would have suffered had both automakers failed.

The stimulus/spending bill had to be done. The economy needed a shock to the system to bring it back to life again. Almost everyone would agree that had McCain won, he would have proposed his own stimulus bill.

Am I missing something? How is Obama "recklessly spending?"

This question isn't sarcastic, I really want to know if there's something I've missed in the news.

Have you looked at Obama's best projections for deficit spending for the next decade? It doesnt matter which party you are from that should worry you and it is reckless.

Politics. If the economy turns around, Obama would get the credit, whether the Republicans dissented or not. If the economy doesn't turn around by elections, the Republicans can say "look at all this spending, it didn't work", and run on that.

It's your money, if you want it wasted or not is how you vote.

Yeah the radical left economists think it's too small and "Venezuela Chavez says "Comrade" Obama more left-wing"

Sure, but how is he recklessly spending right now? That claim is already being made.

Newt Gingrich even went so far as to label Obama's economic policies a failure last night, yet Obama has only been in office 4.5 months.

Simple political bantering and propaganda is one thing, but I find it disturbing that:

1. Politicians, individuals whom we elect into office to represent us relay false information either knowingly or (just as bad) unknowingly
2. People accept said falsehoods without any thought or research then defend those falsehoods against those with actual data and facts.

I'm not a Democrat or a Republican. Both parties are crooked. However, as I watch Obama and how the GOP is responding to him, I'm not sure how they plan to retake Congress, let alone the White House, by simply being angry white guys who say whatever comes to mind, be it true or not.

Government spending is a big issue and Obama needs to follow through by curtailing the deficit and restoring US economic independence. However, I fail to see how that is served by his opponents raging lies into microphones when their best strategy once elected is to lower taxes and further balloon the deficit (a trend that has held fast for the last 30 years regarding Republican presidents).

Any economist that thinks we should keep printing fiat currency, or borrow every last dollar we can using our foreign credit card in order to keep afloat insolvent companies.....

is a fucking moron.

Dear OCGuy,

Typically you rightwing blowhards will make some really stupid arguments based on partisan ideology rather than how things actually work and guys like me or LK will blow you idiots out of the water, especially when it comes to how wall street works. I'm surprised you haven't noticed this yet. KTHNXBYE.

Sincerely,

Reality

Please explain to me how letting the credit markets freeze is an even better idea.

*lies back in lawnchair*

This should be good.
