to yllus don't worry IT IS possible, it only took me about an hour to get it working on my GF's, for some reason the Zune Software needed other things installed, but MS doesn't want to include them (too easy?) so after I manually updated my Windows Install to 3.1, downloaded the latest Net Framework and edited a file in her user profile it worked. On a flip side I plugged my iPod Touch into the same box and it just worked, imagine that...

I thought you could copy MP3's onto the Zune by accessing it like a removable drive, whereas the iPod requires you to use iTunes?

I have one of the new Creative Zens. 16 GB Flash, nice screen, slim, durable, FM receiver and microphone, support for a decent amount of formats with transcoding that beats the living shit out of iTunes, ZenCast automatically converts podcasts to wmv to be compatible with it, it owns. Too bad Creative sucks at marketing.

Nope, you can't access a Zune at all with anything except the Zune software, which unless you're an Apple hater is still worse than iTunes. The latest version is far better than the previous but it's still shat. The Zune will never be cracked so no chance of Rockbox or any 3rd party solution for loading music on it. My iPod I have about 20 different programs I can use to put music on it, you don't need iTunes at all.

There was a work-around to do that, but you still had to use the Zune software to sync the device if you actually wanted to listen to or view what you put on there. And that little hack is gone with the latest firmware revision anyway. Like QueBert said, Ipod has been hacked, Zune probably never will be.

I have no experience with Itunes, but god I hate the Zune software. All I need is drag and drop, I don't need this syncing BS. The program is a total resource hog that drags my old P4 to its knees and loads a bunch of background processes at startup. I knew I was chained to this stupid software when I bought a Zune, but I didn't imagine what a PITA it would be. I'm pretty happy with the device itself though.

I'm still bummed that the original Zune hasn't been hacked. With that built-in 30 GB hard drive, WiFi connection, and nice big screen, it could have been a handy little pocket sized computer if someone put a different OS on it.

I'll bet that you could have checked your e-mail, surfed the web, even played multi-player games on it... not bad for something that you could have picked up on Woot for $80 over a year ago.

Have you used the Zune? It's damn nice. The software isn't the best, but it's better than itunes. I'll never install that fucking program on my computer again.
