Boy, I sure am glad people who trampled on our freedoms and rights like Bush & Co are gone and have been replaced by.... uh, wait, people who expand the trampling on those rights to include even situations where no imminent threat exists. Sheesh.

Note : Pictured in the photo is Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab "The Underwear Bomber" who they have witnesses saying that he had no papers to get on the plane until some sharply dressed guy in a suit intervened w\ the airport personnel and let him on the plane anyhow where his possibly fake "bomb" simply lit him and his seat on fire.

Similar to other FBI stings that have happened over the past couple of years in which the FBI recruits people online to carry out mock terrorist activities in which the FBI gives them money and provides them w\ the fake/ make believe bomb to plant and then they get sent to prison for 20+ years.

Security is cool and all but when our government is mostly arresting people that they recruit and setup, than taking more rights away from the public is really not necessary.

Our legal system generally gives far too many rights to accused and convicted criminals and tramples over victims and their loved ones. I'm glad to see that some small steps are being the the correct direction.

A Federal Bureau of Investigation memorandum reviewed by The Wall Street Journal says the policy applies to "exceptional cases" where investigators "conclude that continued unwarned interrogation is necessary to collect valuable and timely intelligence not related to any immediate threat." Such action would need prior approval from FBI supervisors and Justice Department lawyers, according to the memo, which was issued in December but not made public.

GOP pushed for indefinite detention of US Citizens who were terror suspects and obviation of all miranda rights. Delaying the reading as described above is arguably reasonable. In comparison it's strikingly sane.

Ya, that makes sence. Someone tries to board a plane without any kind of papers and then these magical people from the government show up and he is let on.

Miranda rights are for people being accused of crimes.

In our country we have the luxary of being innocent until proven guilty, or until you buy your way out of the justice system.

NO! Obama is as bad as bush. That means the democrats made the same mistakes as the republicans in voting for him. Now that the republicans say this they can feel better about voting for that shit head.

No, he's not as bad, and the torturing has stopped, but obama still favors indefinite detention of foreign terror suspects. This is thorny but if you "know" the people are so bad you can't release them, present that evidence. If you can't convince a judge or jury even in a military tribunal that the guy has or is planning to blow shit up, you just can't hold them forever. It shits on the USA to do so. Cops often have to let suspects they "know" are guilty go free. It's the price of a free society. I get the suspects aren't US citizens and may not be entitled to identical rights of US citizens, but lockign them up forever without a hearing only infuriates our enemies more, increases recruitment, etc. I'd rather let the fucker go and keep an eye on him and his contacts.

I'm curious about the timing of this announcement. Can't help but wonder if it's announced now hoping to not draw much attention while everybody's watching Libya.

Are you sure?

Officially ended as a matter of policy? As sure as I can be I suppose. You could play the "all politicians lie" tack in which case there's really nothing to discuss. Are individuals in the field going to violate policy on occasion? Probably. But now, since the torture orders aren't coming down from the top, such people can actually be prosecuted instead of promoted. Before there was always the worry some persnickety defense lawyer might actually follow up the chain of command to see where the orders for such treatment came from.

LOL, god fucking damn our voters are fucking stupid. Lets keep up the cycle guys, keep voting for the Red or Blue team, they're sure to make a difference... lol fucking retards. I wonder if we can file anti-trust papers against the Republican and Democratic parties for holding a monopoly on our political process?

Doesn't Obama usually just kill suspects with Predator drones anyways? That way he avoids the whole messy business of trials and prisoners.

Don't forget that hollow speechifying grin. Charisma will let you get away with a lot.

LOL, where is Harvey with his pages of emoticons? The "left" in this country is as inconsistent and morally bankrupt as they claim the "right" is.

It'd be funny if it weren't so sad.

Er, you folks get that detaining someone slightly longer than otherwise after pre-approval from the higher ups at the FBI and then reading them their rights is a different level of offense ot what some might consider unconstitutional than say picking a US citizen up off the streets, flying them overseas and torturing them right?

I have a feeling you'll hear the "left's" response shortly, this article is from today.
