I don't know what's worse. The potential identity theft going on or if it's an operation to get information for voter/benefit fraud. The guy with the bull horn really makes it authoritative.

People in NYC are lining up because they heard that people were getting a debit card loaded with as much as $1,000 of stimulus money. However, based on the latest information, there is no money to be given away. And yet people continue to line up and turn over their sensitive, personal information.

E & M Multi-Services is a tax preparation service that operates out of the back of a “dollar store” in the Fordham section of the Bronx. The company is reportedly collecting copies of Social Security cards, state ID cards and in exchange people are given a debit card from First California Bank. One small problem with this program — the cards are not loaded with $1,000 — not from Obama or anyone. Although, at least one person on the scene believed that the card would contain funds from President Obama:

“They said it was money from Obama.”

2. Scams Related to the Economic Stimulus Payment

Some scam artists are trying to trick individuals into revealing personal financial information that can be used to access their financial accounts by making promises relating to the economic stimulus payment, often called a “rebate.” To obtain the payment, eligible individuals in most cases will not have to do anything more than file a 2007 federal tax return. But some criminals posing as IRS representatives are trying to trick taxpayers into revealing their personal financial information by falsely telling them they must provide information to get a payment. For instance, a potential victim is told by phone or e-mail that he or she is eligible for a rebate but must provide a bank account number (or similar information) to get the payment. If the target is unwilling, the victim is then told that he cannot receive the rebate unless the information is provided. Individuals should remember that the only way to get a stimulus payment is to file a 2007 tax return. The IRS urges taxpayers to be extra-vigilant. The IRS will not contact taxpayers by phone or e-mail about their stimulus payment.

If all you see is an Obama boogyman staring at you whenever you close your eyes, just keep your eyes open wide with toothpicks when you go to bed at night. I had Bush nightmares for eight years in a row and this trick really worked for me. And don't worry about Obama because he doesn't know you personally. And in another 4 1/2 years, he will be out of office and a mere bad dream you thought you once had just like how I now envision Bush as a snot nosed spoiled brat sitting on Dick Cheney's lap constantly reminding quick draw Dick that he (Bush) was the decider and not Dick the Prick.🙂

Yes... but to what end? The people rioting for free obama money... probably have shitty credit and very little money in a checking account.

People smart enough to not fall for this.. usually handle money a little better.

EDIT: okay I read the article and see tax preparation. Now I see where the opportunity for big pay outs. Next year as soon as possible, these scammers will file tax returns getting all the EIC refunds for these people... who will later file and then find out the IRS already sent out the check.

I'm not blaming the president. Only pointing out how many people stood in line for their "obama money". That folks actually think they can just stand in line and get "obama money" is the problem. They can vote and folks need to be reminded of that.

Spidey didn't blame Barack Hussein Obama, he was simply pointing out that the scam was based on throwing your great leaders name out there
 
NY just passed a law that they are not allowed to imply anything was coming from the Government to try and sell you a loan. I remember a few calls where they would start out talking about Obama setting aside money for people.
