Works for me actually, I could have him wire it to me in a bank in the Cayman Islands and be a happy camper.

Actually that would be the best thing that ever happened to Israel. US commits officially to going completely hands off on Israel, irrespective of what Israel does or does not do.

"Palestinians" shit their pants...

Israel has held back multiple times at the request of the US.

Maybe if Israel is let off the leash, then they and the Palestinians can work out the issue without external influences.
Then both sides will learn to live with their actions.

How about we send that $3 billion to Palestine instead? Wonder how Israel would feel then?

you have no idea what you're talking about, do you?

"the U.S. government has committed approximately $5 billion in bilateral assistance to
the Palestinians, who are among the world’s largest per capita recipients of international foreign aid"

http://fas.org/sgp/crs/mideast/RS22967.pdf

US gives money to Israel so it could buy american jet fighters.
US gives money to palestinians, and they use it to fight israel.
US wins!

Palestinians receive hundreds of millions of dollars in aid from many countries (see figure 1) and it all goes to Hamas. great use of donations, really!

We've been supplying arms to that whole region. Pretty disgusting if you ask me, a tax paying citizen. But I guess welfare for the military industrial complex is better than welfare for our struggling citizens.

Priorities...

Yes struggling citizens don't get you re-elected the way a struggling military industrial complex does.

I hate to admit it, whatever we do in the Middle East turns to crap. I'm starting to believe we should stay out of the area entirely. Israel has grown up enough to fend for itself. Fracking may have environmental consequences but we may as well enjoy energy independence.

If the US was totally hands off, it would waive its security council vote at the UN, and sanctions would be imposed on Israel.

We only "hold them back" because we don't want to have to exercise the veto. It's bad press for both sides.

1) More than likely, Israel would retaliate with nuclear weapons
2) Israel would retaliate with conventional weapons.
3) Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza would also be severely impacted.

Or stuff the money into fusion research or GenIV fission reactors or thorium reactors. You want energy independence, there it is. The GenIV reactors would also do a lot to dispose of the bit of nuclear waste we've accumulated.
(I still am amazed at the absurdity of fusion funding. "Here is the level at which we expect to be able to make no meaningful progress on this." Then the government decided that they could go even lower than that.)

Have to agree with you this should be a Manhattan lite style project. I remember reading about this 40 years ago they said 10 years max...

And it explains why you keep hearing "Fusion is 30 years away," or something to that effect.

The nominal GDP of the US is a bit more than $16 trillion.

Far less than 1% of that amount and we could pave the way to solving our energy problems for several hundred years. Why is this such a difficult decision?

If nothing else, GenIV reactors would turn a 10,000-year waste disposal problem into a <500-year disposal problem, and dramatically reduce the (already small) volume of stockpiled waste.
Fusion: We're set until the oceans run out of deuterium.

Pretty sure we sell most of those arms, not just giving them away at tax payer expense.

Even if we are selling them (and the government is indeed selling them as a middleman), it still costs the tax payers either directly or indirectly.

It's hard to complain about a region erupting into violence when we are the ones making it easier to be violent.

Because the housing and construction director speaks for the entirety of Israel now?

He is an official of the Israeli government - the Israeli government represents the Israeli people. Is this the message the Israeli people want to send out?

The PR shills are out in droves when an IDF soldier farts in the general direction of Gaza, yet statements like this are eye rolled at.
