Fascism and socialism are only closely related by their inherent authoritarian natures. Otherwise, they have completely opposite agendas.

I agree, though, that the overall authoritarian tendency of the American govt is towards fascism rather than socialism. And the simple reason for that is that, quite frankly, socialism is bad for generating tax revenues (in that the govt has to tax itself). Fascism OTOH always looks good on paper.

Something I really love about these kind of threads is that it always exposes the naivete of the average partisan, who believes that the entire direction and policy of one of the world's largest and most bureaucratic institutions, namely the US govt, could be reversed almost overnight by a single man. Reality check, people.

You're an idiot that you can't tell the difference between socialism and fascism, but imagine you know anything about modern politics. All you did here is post some things that socialism and fascism have in common.

The govt isn't assuming permanent ownership and control of the means of production, it's bailing the owners of the means of production out temporarily from their own fsck ups. That you would want them bailed out without paying any penalty whatsoever is what marks you a fascist (well that and your blatant racism and xenophobia, 2 other hallmarks of fascism).

Edit: BTW, when it comes to the bailouts, Obama did nothing more than continue Bush's policies, and which McCain had promised to do even far more than Obama has done. I know that this will be the point that you'll claim to be non-partisan, but you only think you can get away with that because of how bad the search function works here.

How is govt intervening and forcing a financial solution whereby they become majority shareholders not the same as "seizing" industry? Regardless it does not require the govt to seize for the action to be socialist.

The car companies should have bankrupted, and all the banks nationalized and immediately spun off. That would have been the "correct" non-socialist solution. Now you have majority shareholder govt dictating bonuses and whom to loan and what cars to build, with uncertainty on how or when they will divest. That's how socialist it is.
