Amazing fact.

Take Obama's advertising over the past 4 months and factor it out to a full year and he would be the third largest advertiser in the country. Behind only AT&T and Verizon.

I think Obama has killed campaign finance reform for good. And you have to wonder if this is a good thing or a bad thing for the country.

Presidential candidates are sold in much the same way a new product is: with an expensive, flashy, and ubiquitous television campaign.

And according to advertising figures provided by Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on ad spending, Barack Obama's campaign has spent more money selling its candidate on television than most major brand name companies do selling their products.

The Illinois senator's campaign is projected to have spent $250 million on ads in the last four months ? a number that is equivalent to $750 million in a full year. Only AT&T, with a yearly advertising budget of about $1.3 billion, and Verizon, which shells out $950 million a year on ads, spends more than the Democratic presidential nominee.

But most major companies spend far less than Obama, including McDonald?s ($588 million), Sprint PCS ($482 million), T-Mobile ($404 million), Target ($388 million), and Wal-Mart ($335 million).

John McCain is projected to have spent about $110 million since the general election began.

"This advertising spending by Obama is big, and not just in terms of presidential politics but in terms of all commercial advertising ? he has spent enough to be a mega-brand," CMAG's Evan Tracey said.

Obama's massive advertising budget is also a stark reminder of just how much it costs to finance a modern presidential campaign ? and, predicts Tracey, it could just end the era of public financing.

"If Obama wins it is clear that the days of being on public financing are over and anyone thinking of running for president in four years will have to ask themselves one question before jumping in ? Can I raise $600 million?" said Tracey.
BTW I expect we will see some type of fundraising scandal related to Obama post election. Lots of noise going around about foreign donations, donors with fake names, lack of basic fraud protection on his finance web site etc etc.

Its not advertising. It's called propoganda.

Just like what the public didnt know when they bought into GWB's Bullshit about compassionate conservatism right ?? :disgust:

Were you complaining about campaign finance reforms when oil companies were showering Geroge W with fat checks?

Ah, so that's who's #1 and #2. I would have figured that it would have been one of the drug companies.

btw how much money would it have cost McCain if he had to pay for the 24/7 political ad that is called FoxNews?

Not sure, but I'm guess it would have cost about as much as Obama would have had to pay for CNN/MSNBC

Anyone who tries to equate FoxNews with CNN or msnbc is beneath contempt and really has no place in a rationale discussion.
There's a REASON FoxNews is so different from real news media outlets here and in the world.
And its not because it fair and balanced, its because its a propaganda outlet for the Republican party.

...says the guy who has made his signature a liberal propaganda outlet. NBC isn't any closer to a fair media outlet than Fox is.

Buwhahahaha!

As far as Obama voters not knowing what they bought, doesn't matter much. When you have a soap that isn't working at all (current GOP), why waste money on it anymore? Throw the shit in the trash and try something new and sometimes, you just buy that flashy package, and sometimes, it does work. Will Obama work? Don't know yet, but the GOP doesn't work (as stated on said package) and it's time to try another product. It's just that simple Butterbean. 😀

Republican 527s were what forced Obama's decision not to take public financing

 Yep! And its finally a level playing ground for fair politics.
ps. Don't republicans just HATE fairness...! U Betcha :lips:

It's already in the news. Quite a few contributions were made with unsecured credit card debt.

Fox news aside, what about the other 3 networks (NBC, ABC & CBS) where Obama is running his "infomercials"? Those 3 networks are what most of the people in the U.S. associate with. One nearly has to go out of their way to catch Fox News ... and the "more realistic" news they are reporting.

LIES!!!! Max Payne is the largest advertiser in the country. I swear they play that stupid commercial 2 times every commercial break. They play it so much I've went from kinda wanting to see the movie to now just despising it.

It doesn't matter, if you're Republican (i.e. fiscal conservative) then you believe in free markets and people being able to buy whatever they want without government interference. Buying Obama for 4 months should appeal to fiscal conservatives everywhere, whether you like him or not. It's more American than apple pie.

Topic Title: Obama is now the third largest advertiser in the country!!!

He's running for the Presidency of the United States of America, one of the most important jobs in the world. In today's world, that takes advertising. There is no alternative.

Would you be willing to bet it will continue after November 4? 😛

McCain and Palin's problem is that far fewer people are buying their message, whichever message that happens to be, on whichever day they promote it... at least until they flip and try to pimp another one.

Topic Summary: No wonder he is winning.

The majority of the American people have figured out that your party's candidates are lying turkeys. That's why they're losing. No wonder you're whining.

People are supporting Obama and now hes WINNING?!?!?!

This is clearly a war waged against us Repugnantcans, what sane person WOULDN'T vote for what the TV tells me to? Those goddamn democrats are CHEATING, but we'll just balance the playing field by changing their votes for them, and cry bitch and shit all over the place when Mickey Mouse votes against us

At the beginning of September, RNC spokespeople were saying that money would not be an issue this cycle ($84 million public financing and all of the corporate money being funneled indirectly to McLame through RNC).

In fact, at that time, Obama had to raise $100 mill per month (September and October) just to match that.

Even with $150 million September haul, net advantage was $34 million or so in September because of an the "RNC paid for this ad" McLame advertising.

What changed?: stock market meltdown put a lot of states that shouldn't have been in play back in play...

It cost alot to defeat prejudiced and the GOP smear machine.

Here's a guy trying to singlehandedly stimulate the economy and people criticize him?
Maybe the whole freakin' financial slowdown is because McCain won't spend enough to hold up the Republican end of the stimulus?

The wealth of the healthy in the nation is going to stop the spread of the Republican disease of ignorance and fear that is destroying the country.

I find it hilarious that here we have McCain, who owes his allegiance and his political career to the party that represents all the corporate greed and wanton pillaging and profiteering that they perpetrated on the average American over the time they had complete control over the government, and of the time they had enough seats to block any meaningful legislation that the Dems tried to push though, the party that regaled and gorged itself on letting corporate America run rampant over the people's laws that Bush gutted and ignored to allow this travesty to happen, ALL of which McCain and his Socialite wife and friends prospered immensely from, is now the cross that McCain has to bear across the Country to keep things the way they are.

How comical it is to see him try to shuffle and juggle his way around the facts of that matter and try to now position himself as the man of change and the guy that has always been the banner holder for Middle America.

McCain still represents, and will always represent Corporate control over the people via control of the Federal Gov't. PERIOD.

There is no realistic way around that FACT.

Anything contrary to that FACT that is coming out of his lying piehole is Rovian propaganda, the likes of which Fox News is now running 24/7 at a frantic and, dare we say....PANICKED pace?
