Obama: I love debt! I want to owe China more!

In order for someone to represent change, they need to change everything. Why are we still even using dollars as our currency? I thought Obama was for change! Why does our government still have three branches? LOL CHANGE. Why do hot dogs still come in packages of 10? LOLLOL CHANGE.

Ummm.... LOL @ The people who say this won't result in higher taxes down the road to pay for such silly and useless shenanigans?

+1

he promised change as well as government intervention in the economic crisis so there is no contradiction here in promises and proposed actions.

Not unexpected but lowering taxes and increasing taxes is what helped to get us into the current mess we are in right?

We are looking at Obama's first two budget cycles and staring at nearly 1 trillion per cycle(stimulus package at 500 billion\year, and normal deficit spending at nearly 500 billion\year).

I thought we as a nation were trying to get away from this type of govt spending?

It's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Raise taxes, people will complain about suffocating the economy.

Lower taxes, people will complain as in what you have to say there.

Both points of view have validity. I would have to say that I don't think I've ever seen someone use tax increases to get us out of a recession successfully. Although it's equally true that increased spending without increased tax revenue is problematic to put it lightly.

I do find it almost hilarious though, that after hearing idiots like Glenn Beck, Levine, and Michael Savage and so forth railing about how Obama is going to tax us to death for his communist social programs, and then Obama puts forth a massive tax cut. Lulz.

I agree. The best solution would be mild tax cuts for most working Americans, mild tax increases for others, and epic cutting of spending.

With entrenched political corruption in both parties, and lobbyists sucking dick 24/7, I don't expect that will ever be possible short of revolution though. So this is better than I expected.

I prefer tax cuts with reduced spending. I agree this isnt the worst of the worst which imo would be increased taxation + increased govt size. My hope is this stimulus package will only be a 2 year blip on the radar with limited govt intervention roped in by the size of the stimulus package. But time will tell. The increased taxation + increased govt size would gurantee a permanent size increase of govt. Yes I know chances are high they will still increase the size of govt. But I still have hope 😉

But it is still worrysome to see 1 trillion\year budget deficits. We have to pay that back some day. Out of the gate Obama will have increased the budget debt nearly half what Bush did in 8 years.

Hey hope is all we have right now 🙂 We still live in a truly great country, and perhaps more positive surprises are headed our way.

Honestly, if you would have told me that Obama was planning a massive tax cut, I would have been skeptical to say the least. Perhaps more surprises are in store, such as a plan to reduce federal spending? I know it sounds as likely as monkeys flying from butts, but who knows?

Let me make sure I understand this...

So the people who are already working simply get to keep a bit more of what they have earned? Although at a later date they will have their taxes raise, in effect taking even more of what they have earned then is already taken now?

And you want me to jjump up and down? You know what they say....Dont piss down my back and tell me its raining.......

Tell me hes going to cut spending to those who dont pay taxes to begin with and hes going to make the Bush tax cuts permanent then we'll talk. Until then theres only 1 place this lip service is gonna give me any pleasure........

and modernize classrooms, labs and libraries.
Modernize a library, how, by giving everybody computers? Isn't that like modernizing steam engines or type writers?
rebuild crumbling roads
I like how they say crumbling, as if these things are pock marked and war torn and require a 4X4 to drive on.

My only real opinion on this is that it seems dubious to borrow and spend more to get out of a situation that is in great part caused by spending and borrowing.

I do love the library modernization program. The libraries in Minnepolis have to be closed early due to funding to nobody going to them. The people who do spend their time at the librarys spend it on computers using free internet. And there have been more than enough instances of people publicly masterbating to pr0n at the library. What a system worth fixing up!

Spend and borrow to do what?

We can spend and borrow to invade foreign countries, using multi-million dollar missiles to destroy power grids, then pay multi-million dollar contractors to rebuild them, requiring multi-million dollar security agent mercenaries to protect them requiring multi-million dollar government officials to bribe? While said country has immense profits from natural resources, while the US Taxpayer sees no benefits from cheap oil except for $148 oil?

Or...

Investing in something that'll help out society in multiple ways for decades to come?

Hmm...one seems like a better investment than the other.

The roads and bridges in a lot of areas of this country ARE crumbling. Hell, I feel like I need a 4x4 to drive down some of the main roads in San Diego. Not back roads, not side streets, main roads. In addition, our power grid is in desperate need of modernization. There's a ton of money that needs to be spent on bringing the US' infrastructure back up to date, and the only bad part about Obama's plan is it will actually cost several trillion dollars to put it back into shape, far more than we will be spending.

That's right, McCain wasn't proposing any additional spending either................
