That really makes me want to punch a damn hole in the wall for reasons that are hopefully obvious to all.

What about you?

I would imagine as an anarchist forced to live in the pseudo capitalistic society you have more holes and then wall by this point.

A president that constantly engages in class warfare, A president that demonizes everything America was built on and stands for. A president that has a fucking "pay czar". A president that passes legislation against the will of the people. A president prohibits employment and economic growth. A president that wishes to destroy this nation.

No Sir, you are no believer in free market.

Your name is Anarchist420 why would we take you seriously? On the other hand people that think that the government is the end all to everyones needs are unAmerican. Obama Lies but just thinks you will agree with him. He is a Statist. He believes in Centeralized government look at what he does and his legislation and not the rhetoric that he spews...

Obama may or may not be. He claims he is.

But enough of those he has chosen to staff his administration seem to have issues with the free market.

This thread needs more buzzwords.

Socialist! Lefty! Liberal! Anti-Christ!

There, the point has been proven. Next issue!

(that seems to be how you win arguments around here)

Seriously, don't you all get tired of saying the same shit over and over and over again? I mean, it's great to have a strong opinion, but how many times do you have to say the exact same things? Why not take your opinions and do something constructive with it?

Honest question.

I think the reason is indeed obvious to all: Oppositional defiant disorder.

Thanks for that. I always thought it was a clinical condition, and would therefore have a proper name... Not being a psychologist or psychiatrist, I didn't know what it was until now...

Hate to tell some of you guys, but desipite what you have been told we do still mostly a free market system with a few minor exceptions, well if you don't count regulations for public safety then there is a lot of of regulations.

This is just scratching the surface, so forgive me for any glaring oversights. Here are a couple industries that are not "free market":

Cars
No, nothing to do with the bailouts - although they didn't help your case. CAFE standards create massive implicit subsidies which distort the market greatly from its "free" state, and have nothing to do with safety.

Housing
Mortgages enjoy such gargantuan subsidies it's not even funny. If you need details, then please just stop trying to make the point you were trying to make and start reading - anything.

Food
Corn is massively overproduced, among other huge systemic distortions created by heavy handed government intrusion into the American food market, largely by the Department of Agriculture. And then there's the tariffs...

Education

All government infrastructure.

Many utilities, both public and regulated private monopolies.

Pretty much every single professional sports stadium in the country was built by government fiat in the form of subsidized loans, tax abatements, and other kickbacks. That's starting to get petty in the bigger picture, but it's too easy to just make the generic statement of "corporate welfare" when lots of people think of that as a disposable term that doesn't mean anything tangible.

And many more, including special brands of corporate welfare from the city/county levels of government right up to the feds.

It is easy to start a corporation in this country, and profitable companies usually are able to grow fairly uninhibited. Prices are also negotiated in a way that usually seems free from government coercion. But don't let that fool you into thinking that the economy is largely composed of "free" markets - at least not in the sense of economic jargon. (And notice I didn't even mention safety regulations once. As you pointed out, that makes it a very uninteresting question. Come to think of it, I didn't mention health care either...) If you think this country is dominated by free markets, that just means you aren't important enough to be getting your piece of the gubmint controlled pie.

Please don't get me wrong about the intent of this post. I'm not saying that all of this is necessarily wrong; that's a separate issue. I just call a spade a spade. This is a country with one of the freest economies in the world by most measures, but just because other countries have even more government controls in their economies doesn't mean that this one is "free"!

Well yeah there are things that get government subsidies and a lot at that(you covered most of the bigger ones).
A true laissez-faire system would probably be disastrous, for most people and would most likely degenerate into a kind of caste or feudal system with a few having everything and everyone else having basically nothing.

"I am an ardent believer in the free market."

Guess they changed the definition of "free market" since I was in school.
