Obama has VA expand suicide counseling.

Yeah no problem with this. Though those 'estimates' seem high to me. You would think they would have at least semi-solid numbers on this, not just estimates. This is still a good thing to do.

This program has been expanding steadily for years. Unfortunately, it's still very ineffective. No one I know personally has died in combat, but four have killed themselves after returning home.

The longterm take-away, I guess, is that what's best for the troops and the budget both is to stay the fuck out of wars unless absolutely necessary.

Won't happen. The conservative brain works on fear and suspicion. All a politician has to do is scream danger, there's an enemy over there who is trying to kill us, and only a tiny fraction of liberals with safe seats will protest because the paranoids will throw them out the next election. They didn't stick a cod piece in Bush's pants for nothing.

The way to end this is a constitutional convention demanding that if war is waged 20% of the congress by lottery will be sacrificed to the God of War.

This is socialism. The free market should take care of this.

*The free market won't take care of this*

The free market, not exactly, but if you weren't a statist and if you supported the rights of people to do with their own bodies as they please, the problem would take care of itself.

Before Obama began meddling with health care we had 6 places in the county for mental health, we had more beds for mental health in hospitals. Since Obama altered health care we now have 1 place for mental health in the county, 13 other counties have lost their providers as well and mental health was taken away from government and state supported and changed to a corporation in charge of management .

In NC, the free market was taking care of mental health. The reason we had so many providers before is that any organization could open a place to treat mental illness as long as they met the guidelines. After the Obama plan began taking place the state changed it so that only 1 organization would receive funding and that organization would be in control of all the funding . The state did this after finding out that it wouldn't be practical to try to reorganize mental health across the state so they handed it off to a single provider per county and let them worry about it.

I hope the people in VA get the help they need , but it has been my experience that anytime the government decides something is too much trouble to manage they hand it off to someone else they can blame for it not working when it wasn't the service itself that was the problem, it was the government controls placed on it. They can throw all the money they want at the program but it will not change the problems that the government has created . Mental health services are not services that work because you provide a bigger budget, it starts with the people that provide the service and if you tie the hands of those people , no amount of money will fix it.

Sigh, seriously dude, seriously? Not everything is about politics................

Well this is overdue and given the many notable situations here of late concerning servicemen, hopefully they can implement this as fast as possible.

Don't worry, Mitt Romney will make sure there is nowhere for crazies to go to get treatment. Its your problem. Deal with it.

Just another example of Obama mandating more government, at tax payer expense. Taking your own life is a mortal sin anyway and they're likely all going straight to hell. Why thin our wallets just to help a bunch of sinners?
