This guy is married to a us citizen? He should be allowed to stay yes?

It's always worked this way... Hell when I lived in WDC tons and I mean TONS of fine latina were ALL over me. It was great... Of course they wanted marriage for obvious reasons and I was after something else :sneaky:

How do you guys feel about this one

guy came to this country when he was 4 years old...

Went to school went to collage and now is going to Harvard law school. He lost his passport and is now set to be deported. Is this right?

I'm not saying people shouldn't be deported but it seems like the one size fits all approach is mezzed.

He's married to an American, has an engineering degree, and has no criminal record. He should be welcome to stay.

An American should have the right to have their spouse with them.

There's this thing called the LAW. He should go back to his home country and have his wife sponsor him like any other person. He should get no special treatment just because he wrote a letter to Obama.

Suggest you read up on immigration law. A spouse sponsorship can be done within the US. Foreign spouses do not necessarily have to travel back to their 'home' country.

Not when they're in the country illegally. Then they need to go back home.

I'm claiming that it should not be the law.

He was not here illegally. He was here on a business visa.

The letter explained that Ms. Jamieson, 42, had filed a petition seeking a green card for her husband on the basis of their 2005 marriage. But before they met, Mr. Takoulo, who first arrived in the country on a temporary business visa, had applied for political asylum and had been denied it by an immigration judge in Baltimore, who ordered him deported.

He's married to a US citizen, put himself through college, and has broken no criminal laws. If he can't get citizenship, who can?

He was ordered deported but overstayed his welcome. I think thats breaking a criminal law.

Also, I'm not sure how this works but I don't think you can go to college on a business visa. You'd have to get a student visa or a plain old green card to do that.

You really look like an idiot here. This guy and his situation is not a classic "illegal immigrant" case and you know it. And what trumps all is the fact he is married to a US citizen. That in itself should end the argument.

Immigrants, if they passed entry inspection (i.e. had a visa), are automatically forgiven overstays if married to a US citizen. They can simply apply for green cards through a domestic adjustment of status instead of a foreign consular processing.

I've heard plenty of stories all from the New York Times where the illegal was detained outside the building where they were to be interviewed and sent to deportation. As they should if they decide to overstay their welcome.
