The idea behind drug laws is a utopian fantasy of nobody getting hooked on them. This is simply impossible. The more the government intervenes to fix this "problem" the more it fucks it up. It drives up the price of drugs which increases theft and other behavior that people wouldn't be taking part in if their drugs weren't artificially expensive.

We aren't going to create a perfect society where nobody ever ODs or gets hooked on drugs so let's stop causing all the collateral damage in trying to achieve the unachievable.

Those are just words, action is what counts, and obama actions have been appalling. He continues to raid medical marijuana facilities in California and send letters to landlords of such shops telling them the feds could seize all of their assets if they don't evict the medical marijuana shops.

Then the reality is the Feds need to up their resources to enforce these laws, or, get rid of these laws. The People wanted these laws, they've got them. Either The People should fund the implementation of what they wanted, or, The People need to send messages to their Politicians in sufficient numbers that the Politicians change the laws

What do you mean, proof they wanted these laws? The People vote in the Politicians that make the laws. If The People don't want these laws, then they need to make sure their Politicians either know they don't want them, and/or, vote in Politicians who get the message. If The People want to abdicate their responsibility of watching their Politicians to simple trust of their Politicians to read their collective minds and do what The People want, then that's The Peoples fault, not the Politicians.
