Obama defends the 2nd Amendment

Nowhere does it say in the Bill of Rights that the 2nd amendment grants the people the right to keep and bear arms. It clearly says that the government shall not infringe on people's right to bear and keep arms. If anything, it clearly means Obama doesn't have a firm understanding of the philosophy of our Founding Fathers.

But that's what he believes and has publically said so many times. The government "gives" rights. And I don't buy his recent sentiment, not one bit. His voting record and previous statements paint a much different tune.

As soon as he was elected there was a mad dash on ammo and guns, so much so that prices doubled if not more and there were serious supply problems. That was all based on his previous voting record and appalling statements regarding the 2nd amendment and gun ownership.

While I am glad he is more center isle, as opposed to full on Clintonian, he has stated in the past that he supports a ban on sale and manufacture of handguns, assault rifles, supported the useless AWB, and is against conceal carry. This. Now Senator Webb of VA (whom I helped elect) is a Democrat with a concealed carry permit and a proven record of supporting the 2nd amendment. Maybe Obama should take a few pointers.

Applying for a firearm permit in New Jersey is like voting against Saddam Hussein in pre-US Iraq. It's shorthand for asking government to ruin your life at its convenience.

WASHINGTON -- Faced with a Congress hostile to even slight restrictions of Second Amendment rights, the Obama administration is exploring potential changes to gun laws that can be secured strictly through executive action, administration officials say.

The Department of Justice held the first in what is expected to be a series of meetings on Tuesday afternoon with a group of stakeholders in the ongoing gun-policy debates. Before the meeting, officials said part of the discussion was expected to center around the White House's options for shaping policy on its own or through its adjoining agencies and departments -- on issues ranging from beefing up background checks to encouraging better data-sharing.

Administration officials said talk of executive orders or agency action are among a host of options that President Barack Obama and his advisers are considering. “The purpose of these discussions is to be a productive exchange of good ideas from folks across the spectrum,” one official said. “We think that’s a good place to start.”

The other guy just can't win, eh? If Obama had said he was going to start the process to repeal the 2nd, the responses would simply be, "See? I told you motherfuckers he would do it!!!"

It's backed up by his voting record and actions in office. Just because he let a mild gun-freedom slide (keep in mind said freedom was an amendment to another bill he liked) doesn't even begin to outweigh his other actions. Yay I can carry in National Parks! One of the places where I'm least likely to need a gun in the first place!

If at some point in the future he establishes clear support for the 2nd amendment I'd be more apt to believe him. He's got a long way to go to reach that point though.

Benefit of the doubt is for people with no record.
