what goes through the mind of some of these people posting in this thread?

a lot of people can get sick and die from the swine flu. its something that can, and looks likely to spread very easily.

of course the regular flu kills people, but if I'm not mistaken, the death rate is much higher than that of regular flu, at least I remember that being the case when the hype first started up.

name a couple of other things that would cause us to always be in a constant state of emergency. stop spewing bullshit. I don't see anything negative about trying to push people to get vaccinated. its basically a no risk win-win situation...

I think cancer and AIDS have a higher death rate than the flu.

😕 So, you're comparing apples and oranges. Outside of the elderly, no one has an immunity against this H1N1 virus. The H1N1 virus was spreading during the summer when the flu virus is pretty much nonexistent. The flu season hasn't even started and the H1N1 virus has already killed more young children than the flu does during the entire flu season.

It's a national emergency not only due to the possibility of deaths but also the large numbers of people that may need hospitalization, will be out of work/school and the reduced productivity of the work force due to people not taking this virus serious.

Obama's a moron... the flu a national emergency... pfft...

Knock, knock.

We've already had a couple hundred of kids die because of H1N1. People are having a fit because someone claims to have dystonia based on a shot, which would be a first. It's Balloon Boy medicine to think that caused her problem.

So if we only have 50K people die instead of 100K, does that make H1N1 a non issue?

That's sad that people have died, but more people die every year from all kinds of things.

Fixed.

Flushots are bullshit.

Bull crap. Over 60,000 die each year from the flu. How many have died from H1N1? ~5000.

And the Flu Season hasn't even started.

The article from below is from last week, the death count is now at 95 when a typical flu season kills between 40-50 children.

Swine flu hits hard, early -- claims 11 more kids

And tell me, how much of this that you have described DOESN'T apply to the regular flu?

Since, the flu season hasn't even started yet, it doesn't take a scientist to figure out that based on the spread and activity of the H1N1 currently, the numbers will be much higher than that of a regular flu season. And why it's been declared a national emergency.

Oh crap. not 100 children. We are going to run out!! Declaring a national emergency over 0.00001% of the population is retarded. Granted, the infection rates have been high from swine flu (about as high as the regular flu) the mutation rate is fairly low. That means that swine flu could easily burn itself out this season. Heck, we may have already seen the worst of it.

Your assuming that the flu season will magically make the swine flu worse. Because of the low mutation rate, it is quite possible that the swine flu has already seen its worst period.

The fact it "started" first is irrelevant to what the discussion has been about. They both have similar symptoms AND CAN be fatal. They both have the same chances of killing someone. Neither is worse than the other, this has been proven already. Will have to look for an article I read recently but just because it has killed more people so far is irrelevant because the regular flu season hasn't kicked in yet.

I had a really terrible experience with a vaccination when I was younger, in which i caught the virus that I was being vaccinated again. I forget what specifically, but I remember getting really sick and missing 2 weeks of school and ever since, I've shied away from vaccinations.

Wow, flu has become a partisan issue? Who'd a thunk Amerca could get so dumb, so fast. Anyway, it is likely that I will eventually get the vaccine when it eventually becomes available. Unfortunately that is not likely to occur before I have to fly on a plane full of disgusting pestilential germ bags next week, you know, everybody else.

Health care has been a partisan issue for a long time.
Flu is health care.

As with many other things, the two sides cant agree on how bad it really is and exactly what should be done about it.
Same with education, employment, environment, and everything else.

Anyway, if I get the swine flu shot, does that mean I have a chance with this hottie?

If it's free it's most likely funded by the government. If it's funded by the government you're paying for it with your tax dollars. Nothing is free.

It's possible to get the flu shortly after a flu shot, but just to be clear it's NOT possible to catch the flu FROM the flu shot. The vaccination doesn't work immediately so it's likely you would have caught the flu whether you were vaccinated or not, unfortunately.

QFT... it may be just one big damn coincidence but I'm not getting either a regular or an H1N1.

With that being said my 3 year old daughter got her H1N1 vaccination yesterday. My wife said the line for the nasal mist had no waiting but the line for the shot was an hour long. We had already determined the nasal mist was fine for our daughter and seeing the kids scream as they got the shot confirmed that decision.

I will not seek any sort of vaccination. Roughly 7% of students on my campus have been confirmed to have caught swine flu so far but it seems most people are feeling healthier now. It's quite possible my roommate had it a few weeks ago (they tested him for flu and it was confirmed he had influenza A but they did not test for H1N1). While he was sick I had a very minor sore throat but was healthy otherwise. I figure if I didn't catch it from the person I live with then I'll be fine.

While I was active duty military, where you have no choice but to get the flu vaccine, the only time of the year I would get sick was right after the flu vaccine. When it was the shot, it was only a few days of flu symptoms, usually mild, and I was fine. When the switched to the FluMist, not only did I get the flu for 2 full weeks, the disgusting slime of the vaccine burns my nasal passages and sinuses because of my allergies. And in the military, you can't call in sick. You have to get up a few hours before dawn, kinda irrelevant because you won't actually sleep, and sit in the sick call waiting room of the base medical center for several HOURS before they tell you have the flu, prescribe OTC Motrin, and send you back to work.

I'm not opposed to the flu vaccine, and I think people should get the shot, but they need to stop making that nasal crap.

YOU ARE FULL OF SHIT to put it mildly.

Myth: ?You can get the flu from FluMist.?

Fact: You cannot get the flu from a FluMist vaccination. FluMist is a live, attenuated virus that cannot replicate at body temperature and cannot cause the flu.

Source: Myths about FluMist outrunning the facts

Get your fact strait before lecturing other people.

Because everything they say cannot happen has never happened before?! Why do we think vaccine makers/doctors are infallible? They are human just like the rest of us

There is not an ounce of evidence that the flu vaccine causes the flue just like there is no evidence that fairies exist. Do you also think that fairies could possibly exist somewhere?
