As far as I'm concerned, the appropriate response to asshats closing down the interstate and endangering the lives of others is to use a big truck and simply plow through at full speed. After a couple of times, the problem will not occur again. Sorry, your right to protest does not extend to risking the lives of others and trapping them on a public road.

But murdering people does? Good thing cowards like you only talk tough on the internet.

That's what I said, you weren't around then when even more protestors worked real hard in order to inconvenience good folk like yourself.

Civil disobedience, fuck that shit!
You can be civilly disobedient without shutting down highways, your argument is invalid.

It's not like anybody would notice if they didn't. The argument is similar to the remote "free speech zones" set up during the Bush years- out of sight, out of mind.

Though free speech zones existed prior to the Presidency of George W. Bush, it was during Bush's presidency that their scope was greatly expanded.[3] These zones have continued through the presidency of Barack Obama; he signed a bill in 2012 that expanded the power of the Secret Service to restrict speech and make arrests.[4]

Saying they shouldn't protest on highways is not the same as saying they should be confined behind krails and chainlink fence. Bush didn't invent the idea of free speech zones and Obama didn't end the practice.

Well, guess he finally untangled it. The guy was racist, but so are white people so white people must do better.

White people institutionalized racism, made it part of the culture. It still is. The notion that there would be no backlash is absurd.

I figure that if white racism disappeared tomorrow that reverse racism wouldn't be far behind. The reverse obviously wouldn't work that way in our white majority society. It never has.

Yeah, that's why it's so hard for other races to do anything in the USA. I forgot.

Black people institutionized racism in culture too. Not only against whites, but to other blacks too. Reverse racism isn't a real thing, it's just racism. Stop trying to rationalize it.

Unfortunately there are racist of all colors. It's not just white towards blacks, blacks towards whites, or other kinds.

I for one am surprised that a guy writing an opinion piece in the NY Post didn't like Obama. That's a real shocker. Especially the guy who called George W Bush the 'first great leader of the 21st century'.

Why do people quote opinion columns as if they are anything other than people paid to tell those who already agree with them what they want to hear?

He ruined it because he put too much faith in people understanding allegory.

So it was a)good b)bad c)meh speech? And his statement about get a gun is easier than to get a book/computer was correct and nothing to do with more gun control agenda of his?

The speech at the memorial for the officers that were slaughtered simply because of the color of their skin and their uniforms should be about them and their memory, not about pushing political points, correct?

Was it correct? No. Was it central to the theme of his speech? No. Are you and others capable of seeing the forest through the trees? No.

Without that line, do you think it was a good speech?

I suggest to Svnla and anyone else who has not heard Obama's Dallas speech to give it a listen and decide for yourselves. LK's comment above ("pretty much said it is the fault of whites") is absolute and total nonsense and political BS straight out of the Trumptwitterverse and sorely disappoints me, as LK has proven in the past that he is very capable of actual thought and discussion.

IMO that speech was superb and audacious in it's intellectual discussion of race relations and policing problems, as well as being a comfort and apt tribute to the fallen officers. BTW the line about it being easier to obtain a glock than a book or computer got quite a heartfelt round of applause from that mostly police audience. They, at least, understood the point Obama meant to convey.

Here's the link-watch it tonight instead of some insipid network TV show or the talking heads on cable "news": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5IcMdwV6Hg

ROFLMFAO!!! There is no way anybody said that GW Bush was the 1st great leader of the 21st century. That did not happen. Eski, you cannot assert facts that have no basis in reality. That is not how we roll on P&N.

Honestly I thought he started off well but then he started rambling about race. You're right I'm biased, but I couldn't help but feel disgusted.

Look, these killings are all sad and tragic, but it seems like almost everyone is jumping on the issue of race relations too quickly. I admit there are certainly issues with racial bias in policing, but specifically these 2 cases haven't been fully investigated yet. I get annoyed at how BLM screams loudest after these killings regardless of whether they were racially motivated or not. Remember Mike Brown? Yeah. Tragic death, but why is BLM screaming the loudest for a thug?

Similarly here, the obvious issue here is a lack of training and poor use of force practices by cops. That's clearly evident in both videos. The racial aspect? It might be a problem, but these 2 incidents aren't exactly evidence of racially motivated shootings.

So yes, I do think that Obama focused unnecessarily about race. If anything he should be preaching for Americans to have basic problem solving skills and to ask questions and gather information before jumping to conclusions. That to me is a bigger problem than anything else--the fact that critical thinking is not even used in any of these situations.

You mean like the free speech zones the Democrats setup in Boston in 2004 or were those different free speech zones.
