loki has been severly critical of Obama lately. I wonder why.

Maybe because he isn't drinking the BHO koolaid and can see Obama for what he is - just another chicago politician.

And what have you been drinking the past eight years?

Nothing. I most certainly have been critical of Bush over the last 8 years for what I feel he's done/doing wrong.

And how many times did you vote for him?

Twice. And I'm done voting with pragmatism and the lesser of two evils mentality.

So you voted for him twice while being critical? Says a lot about you. All bark and no bite.

As I stated in the other thread - I was under the impression that the best course of action was change from within - that however has failed miserably and I will now use my vote as a protest.

Democrat House and Senate... wiggle room for "opportunity"? It should be a slam dunk for him to pull off if he really wanted to do it.

Let me get this straight, you voted: Reagan, Reagan, Bush, Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush, and now you're finally realizing that the Republican Party isn't what it claims to be? A bit slow, aren't we?

I'm not that old but no that wouldn't have been correct anyway. :) Thanks for playing though.

<-RP1 supporter. Which gave us Clinton, which caused me to vote lesser of two evils in 2K and 2k4.

At least you redeemed yourself in 1992 (and helped Clinton into office). Fair enough.

Except it takes more than that. He'll also need the support of the JC's and the military itself, which is what he said.

There's no hedging or political games here. No nuanced, ambiguous statements. He's just saying that he won't force the military into it without a fair process. And what exactly is wrong with that?

You have to admire a person who can vote for the greatest disaster of an American President in 200 plus years twice, and boldly claim he voted for the lesser of evils. It takes real stones, but the kind one finds in people heads.

Maybe because you're not gay? Perhaps the topic of discrimination would be more important to you if you were in the deprived demographic.

You're probably correct, but I'm not gay, and therefore my opinion is that right now we have alot more pressing problems than the usual red flag issues like gay marriage and abortion. If somebody doesn't right this ship soon, DA/DT is going to be the least of our worries. We can deal with those issues after we can afford to eat and drive to work again.

No offense intended though...I'm grateful to anybody who voluntarily picks up a rifle so that I don't have to.

Come on all you GOP spinners, what is the McCain position on this issue? Cat got your tongue?
Neither party champions gay rights...as a fiscally conservative, socially liberal moderate, I don't see either party coming out in favor of gay marriage, gays in the military, etc.

The Democrats are supposed to be the champions of socially liberal reform...if that is the case, why doesn't Obama come out as an advocate of lifting don't ask don't tell, and pushing for federal recognition of gay marriage?

I wouldn't expect McCain to push a socially liberal agenda...his base would implode.

Nothing.... except that he's making sure there is plenty of wiggle room so he can cover his ass. However, as CIC he would have the power and influence to push a policy change if he wanted.

I kind of agree with both of you. It boils down to the priorities of the individual. Of course, an interesting question to ask a gay person is their order of priorities when it comes to DA/DT discrimination in the military, their economy, and their health care. We may come to discover that even most of them agree that it is a smokescreen topic. Who knows?

I am a veteran and fully support allowing gays to serve openly in the military. That being said, every poll I have ever seen showed the majority of military members opposed to it, and presumably Obama doesn't want to force something this controversial through without some circumspection.

Obama would force homosexual agenda on the military - and all the sensitivity training (brainwashing) that would go with it (as well as the new emerging homosexual epidemics of MRSA and VRE). Obama probably saw a poll that showed people are catching on he is strange in all his sexual politcs (sex ed for kiddies, homosexuals in military, gender identity expression laws (for the oppressed cross dressers denied freedom to use ladies room). This would be another Obama facade that would turn easily if the weirdo was ever in power

Well I was right, I figured, another Butterbean post, its probably going to be off the wall.

Trust it to Butterbean to completely ignore the original complain of this thread. Which is and you can check is Obama backing away from ending Don't Ask Don't tell.

And instead, without posting any supporting evidence to back his claim, Butterbean comes up with his usual totally off the wall response totally made up from his own imagination.

This is pretty much the same argument the miltary used to try and keep black people out of the armed forces for years.

My prediction:

1) repeal don't ask don't tell
2) the greedy ones come out of the closet
3) they get beat up
4) they sue the military
5) profit
6) back to don't ask don't tell

I suspect he wont do it until after the 2010 elections either, if he does at all.

My prediction is (albeit cynical as hell) that someone will think this is their opportunity to make huge #5 by knowing he will get #3 then is able to do #4. My gut feeling is that most gays in the military would not want to come out of the closet.
