“Federal military forces shall not be used to quell civil disturbances unless specifically authorized by the president in accordance with applicable law or permitted under emergency authority,” the directive states.

“In these circumstances, those federal military commanders have the authority, in extraordinary emergency circumstances where prior authorization by the president is impossible and duly constituted local authorities are unable to control the situation, to engage temporarily in activities that are necessary to quell large-scale, unexpected civil disturbances” under two conditions.

The conditions include military support needed “to prevent significant loss of life or wanton destruction of property and are necessary to restore governmental function and public order.” A second use is when federal, state and local authorities “are unable or decline to provide adequate protection for federal property or federal governmental functions.”

Talk about a sick power hungry presidency.

I'm sure the lefties have no problems with this much power being given to the president/military. Because its their guy in charge that is doing this so its ok. If it was bush there would be mass protests and marches... Maybe Obama is on to something shut the left up by threatening to kill them.

Seriously doubt it. Not everyone is mindless as you when it comes to politics. When you finally figure out that it's not an R vs D thing, then you can see things for what they really are.
 
Reading that description, I can't help but imagine a military invasion of L.A. during the Watts Riots and Rodney King riots, complete with drone killings.

You realize that the US mitary WAS deployed to LA during the Rodney King riots, right? It's hard to see anything in this directive that is much different than what we already had on the books.

Weren't those national guard units? I knew a guy who was deployed during the riots. They weren't armed. Just gave the appearance of looking armed. If push came to shove he said they would had high tailed it out of there.

Nope. 7th infantry and 1st marine division. There were also national guard troops.

But I guess one has to grasp at straws to inflame. True, it does give federal military authorities the latitude to act when requested if no other authority is available to consent, but I'd tend to think that'd be a very extreme circumstance, much like when G.W. Bush federalized the CA Nat. Guard during the Rodney King riots and dispatched 4000 federal troops in LA, Marines from Camp Pendleton and troops from the 7th Infantry Division in Ft. Ord, CA. And btw....the CANG was indeed armed with bullets, along with the federal troops.
