Obama asks for an "AMEN" during a political speech

During a speech to a carefully handpicked and vetted crowd to insure absolutely no dissent was present President Obama called for the crowd to shout the religious term "AMEN" to show their agreement to his speech. I found it rather alarming as an obvious attempt by the President to combine politics and religion. Is he trying to institute a State religion?

"The fact is that since most of you were born, tuition and fees at America's colleges have more than doubled," Obama said. "And that forces students like you to take out a lot more loans, there are fewer grants, you rack up more debt. Can I get an 'amen'?"

The students responded: "Amen!"

Obama continued: “The average student who borrows to pay for college now graduates with about $25,000 in student loan debt—that’s the average, some are more. Can I get an ‘amen’ for that?”

"Amen," the students responded.

This sort of political religious revivalism has been a theme as the president and his supporters tour the country. Last week, Obama's wife, First Lady Michelle Obama, also used religious language to talk up the president. "I am so in," Michelle Obama said in Nashville, Tennessee. "I am going to be working so hard. We have an amazing story to tell. This president has brought us out of the dark and into the light."

Remove Obama and insert Bush (or Rommeny) in the article and you'll have foaming at the mouth people quickly commenting on this thread about the separation of church and state.

You get no humor out of a President of the United States giving a lackluster speech to mostly college aged supporters and calling on them to say "Amen!" when he makes a point? No humor at all?

No, no you wouldn't. Not even close. Politicians invoke their religion all the time. Those for separation of church and state care very little. It's when they try to pass laws that restrict or remove rights based on those religious beliefs or try to pass laws that require others to follow their religious beliefs that those of us in favor of the Constitution take issue.

This is just another in a recent series of monovillage troll threads. He has no point, he knows it's nothing to get even slightly bothered over, he just wants to distract from real issues. Don't know what brought this on lately, he was seeming to mellow out for a bit.
