To be fair, the Bush admin, McCain admin, and the Romney admin as well would have pushed for car tracking.

Oh they say they will protect privacy. But we all know that Obama is a fucking liar, and is working to expand the NSA's powers daily. What better way then to use government force to track every car made.

“NHTSA has no plans to modify the current V2V system design in a way that would enable the government or private entities to track individual motor vehicles,” a NHTSA spokesman told CNSNews.com.

The world must feel like a very scary place to you.

Don't worry bro. We set the password to "password" so nobody will ever crack it.

I almost wish McCain won the election. He didn't come across as an evil mastermind. His lies would probably look a lot more obvious and the media would properly criticize his policies. What makes Obama such a dangerous guy is that people believe him. He could say the sun revolves around the moon and people would believe him.

We have to mandate this now so we can see what is in it.

They just never stop.

The world must feel like a very scary place to you.

Only because fascist dickheads like you are in it.

Companies are already working on self driving cars on their own, but the government feels the need to move in and mandate vehicle tracking systems.

And I'm sure that will never be abused. It's not like the government would ever spy on it's citizens without good cause...

Pretty soon it'll come down to your food. Public safety, if you eat wrong you may end up costing time and resources at a hospital. Resources other people need to survive. You will eat exactly what we tell you, or else.

Best of all, none of this has to be done by force. All they have to do is talk to Wal-Mart and you are regulated.

Tracking by car? Not up to you, they'll talk to the auto makers. You are not involved, you can choose not to drive if you'd really like to lose your mobility.

Of course the Obama administration would push for this. And no, they have no intention of respecting privacy at all.

Obama has worked hard to not be trusted and "we have no intentions of" is meaningless. "We'll wait until everything is in place then we'll screw you" is more like it, then Obama or his equivalent will complain about how difficult "rebranding" privacy is given the political climate.

I don't trust these people when they say good morning.

Lol! I guess a catchy title is all it takes to get the faux outrage going.

So... the government being able to track everywhere you go (and possibly even control where and when you can go) doesn't bother you? Or did you not read the article or think of the ramifications of such a thing?

Trust and obey.

On a lighter note, here's our "leaders" in DC arriving for work.

Lol!

The article was about creating and mandating a communication protocol so that cars are more aware of each other, which is necessary if driverless cars are going to be anything more than a pipe dream. It has zero to do with the government tracking you.

Did you read the article?

Who in their right mind wants a driverless car? I certainly do not and will not buy one with that crap on it.

They would fix that by mandating higher insurance premiums for inferior and dangerous 'manually piloted' vehicles.

Do you think?

Have you heard about what the NSA has been doing? and how much data they are collecting?

What makes you think if cars have these trackers in them, they wont collect the data?

What proof do you have that the Obama admin and the NSA respect privacy?

Everything we have learned shows they don't give a fuck about privacy.

Two years ago I'd have put this in the tin foil hat bin, but with all the lying and justification of the lies, no more.

So fucking naive.

----

Driverless cars are an incredible future. Pcgeek, who would want them? Who wouldn't. They will wildly increase safety and efficiency of transportation.

I am behind driverless cars 100%. I don't know we need the gov putting this in all cars though. Obviously it will track everything but with our smartphones and the toilet paper that the 4th amendment has become you are tracked everywhere anyway.

Eh - I can see his point. What is the cost of this future? Will the government get its hands into the car and be able to track every cars movement at all times? Know where you are going when? Just because you are being tracked now that doesn't mean you should acquiesce to being tracked in more ways

And how secure is the system going to be? The Black Hat conferences have already shown home appliances to be easily hacked and controlled so how secure will these cars be? I don't want my car to lose the ability to brake because it got a virus.

Now if you'll excuse me I have a tin foil hat to put away
