The local talk is that he had some "communication problems with some of the players". Whatever that means. It's pretty sad, he's won with a small payroll and no huge talent really.

I thought he was pretty decent

well if you are to believe reports he didn't really warm up to the players and alienated players.

Art howe before him won a bunch of games too. but look what happened when he went to the Mets. he was gone after 2 season?

I honestly don't know who we will bring in though to replace him. Maybe we can bring back Tony LaRussa. The Warriors brought back Nellie, and Raiders brought back Art Shell. Athletics shoudl go for the trifecta and reach into their past too. What's even funnier should that happen is that all 3 play on the same plot of land too.

He was a great coach and pushed the the A's as far as they could go with their roster and payroll. He will be hard to replace based on who's available..

I agree, I did not expect a world series win with the roster. But I did not expect to them to get destory by the tigers either. Maybe Beane quesitoned some of his decisions in the alcs.

Like leaving Loiza too long. especially after already warming up a guy as he had just gave up 3 runs. Same thing happened in the ALDS when he pitched but A's luckily pulled through.

Plus last year the Athletics let him go then rehired him. So it wasn't like a total shocker.

that team would be nothing without the incredible management they've received. you've got a bunch of kids and washed-up has-beens that have consistently been one of the hottest teams in the second half of the last few seasons. the tigers are widely considered a "team of destiny" and they would have beaten any team, so there was no shame in the A's loss. maybe they realized he was too good and they would need to pay him more, so they fired him, just like they've done with every good player they've ever had.

So what place does the world series loser get?

Terrible decision IMO. He's been there 4 years and was building a solid franchise. A's need consistency, not new management.

Super weak. Looks like A's are gonna bring in some AAAA prospects from their farm system next year after Zito signs up w/ another team.

I know quite a bit about the A's as I live in their market, despite the fact I'm a Giants fan. The A's always go through managers like they're nothing, and they continue to win. I don't really question what Billy Bean does anymore, he's a genius. That being said, I don't see how Macha deserved to be fired, he did a fine job.
