Oak Island Mystery- The Money Pit. WTF

Been awhile since I started an OT thread-

Anyways, I've fairly well versed in ancient civilization lore, von daniken books, most of the unsolved mystery type deals. However, this is the first time I've ever heard of this pretty awesome find.

Synopsis:

Discovered in the early 1700's this hole in the ground in Nova Scotia has attracted treasure hunters from then until present day. Sinking hundreds of thousands of manhours into getting to the bottom of this pit. Which is another reason it has been called the money pit.

The pit itself is covered in flagstone and has cedar planks every 10 meters down. Once excavators reached a certain distance down, it triggered a flood trap and would cause the hole sinkhole to flood. Camera's lowered down in the 1970's showed parchment and a body.

Carbon Dating showed The materials to date around 1400-1500 A.D and many coconut husks were found which are not indigenous to the area.

Amazing- Thoughts?

I don't think it's a common sinkhole. However I'm not sure its an ancient alien vault either.

Perhaps it started as sinkhole and was modified for whatever purpose by some mariner's to bury something.

I remember this story from elementary school-days. Very mysterious indeed. Yeah I would love to have a job that would pay me to excavate this site and keep on digging.

I've read a couple stories about this. It's a cool story but with so many recovery attempts coming up empty, it's hard to believe there is any treasure there.

Ya, this dates back to damn near before the internet when I read about it originally. After all these years I would have thought SOMEONE would sink another few million in an effort to retrieve some booty.

Several attempts have been made, with cameras even lowered into the bottom flooded chamber, and it was claimed that what appeared to be a human hand floated by the camera. Who knows if any of it is true, but its fun to read about it and speculate.

Last I heard about this they located where the water was coming from and were attempting to block it, but whoever was doing that probably ran out of money.

Lol. Had my attention until it came right back around to ancient astronauts. Way to go, History Channel.

I remember reading about the hand that floated by the camera when I was a kid-scared the crap out of me.

I was fascinated so much by it that I made a 'file' on it.. printed out everything the 'Internet' had to offer on it in 1995-1996..

Didn't get me any treasure.

You think that is something, what about the Egyptian findings in the midwest 700 feet down?

I saw some photos/videos of the "pit" back in the day. It showed a skull and what appeared to be a severed hand waving in the water.

very creepy.

This is why I need to hit the Mega Millions Lottery-

Not some 29 year old meth head or a 85 year old inpatient.

I'd blow my money on a huge and expensive Mythbusters-esque show where I actually go to Mount Ararat and unearth the mysterious wooden boat that satelite pictures reveal.

Or Spend the cash on sending down a real camera to check out the money pit. Not some antiquated 70's camera that barely showed us anything.

*sigh* I'll never get to see these things.

i started a thread on this a couple of years ago. truly interesting, who ever built it knew what they were doing.

Severed hand....from 1500's....hmmmm, really?
It was a documentary show.

They showed the skull and hand and said because of the environment the bones had turned to a clay like substance. The skull was easy to see and the hand was creepy looking.

Not sure when I saw this, probably late 70's or early 80's.

I've got an idea for a show.

Let's take something genuinely puzzling and have some guests on camera speculate wildly about how, since we haven't yet mounted a successful expedition to dig it all the way up, the contents MUST be magical or alien in nature.

Edit: Is there a religion based on this yet? If not, there should be.

If you read deep enough into the Oak Island mystery you find it possibly ties back to the Templars and ancient Egypt.

The reason for no 'modern' footage is AFAIK the government has it sealed from public access now due to too many deaths.

It's claimed it could be the spot the Holy Grail was delivered too.
