You may want to look into a GTS or a Radeon. I have a GTS myself, but I'm heavy into gaming (3D shooters, flight sims).

The only reservation I have about the Radeon is that ATI has a "not-so-good" history with drivers.
I have not bought an ATI because of this for some time...

Are they still the same??

My vote is for Radeon. I also recently switched from a GeForce256 DDR to a Radeon 64Mb and love it. Radeon's framerate is almost as good as GeForce2 GTS. Where it really kicks nVidia's line of cards in the teeth is the image and color quality. Top-notch IMO.

Drivers don't seem to be a big problem for ATI any more. Windows98/ME drivers perform great and the Windows 2000 drivers are not that far behind. DirectX 8 support seems to be up to snuff, my system runs 3DMark 2001 without a problem.

If you want a good cheap upgrade....try the Radeon LE. Newegg.com has one with TV-out for $89 with free shipping! With some tweaks, it's pretty much the same thing as a Radeon DDR card! Do a search for Radeon LE on here and you'll find out about the tweaks...if you haven't already! Good luck!

Wow...I am surprised no ati bashing yet! =) I think if 2d is important, you should probably get a Radeon. The LE hacked into a regular 32 MB is great, especially $90 with TV out. I am sure you can buy a used 64 MB VIVO retail for $150 tough.

the drivers in Win98 are great (for me and these fellas), and I am in Win2k and the drivers aren't bad, just not as fast sometimes in games. BTW, I have a T-bird 750@980 right now, on an Epox KT8A3, so the processor and chipset is pretty much the same as your future setup.

jad, even though you have been scarred by the Radeon, I believe it is more helpful to at least give a reason why you are recommending the Geforce, especially since you haven't had one...

Couldnt you just go through all the different posts on similar issues from past days/weeks? Instead of making it more redundant that it already is..

sorry Fallengod....I did go through the other posts and felt I didnt have enough to go on...Some people on this thread have pointed me to "other reviews" I had not already read that have helped make up my mind. Thanks to all for the help...
Mods...go ahead and lock this one down so as not to ruffle any more feathers...

I would snoop around for info on Kyro II, sounds like the sweetest deal out there. Soon the net and this forum will be packed with info on the card. If not in hurry, hold on to the money.
