Dear Customer:

I write to inform you that severe weather is disrupting package delivery service in many parts of the U.S. Regrettably, this means that the order you placed on Overstock.com and entrusted to us to deliver by Friday, the day before Christmas, may be delayed.

All packages left our warehouse on schedule and arrived at our carriers' sorting facilities in the Midwest. However, a severe Level 3 snow storm has hit a large part of the Midwest, creating conditions too dangerous for flight (in fact, folks are not being allowed to drive to work in one of the cities). Authorities have shut down air traffic in and out of the hardest hit airports, thus delaying outbound shipments from the sorting facility.

I am deeply sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. I can assure you that the shipping companies are making a Herculean effort to deliver your package on time. Although I?m sure it is of little comfort to you, I wish also to stress that delays are not limited to Overstock.com or to a specific shipping company.

At this point we don?t know the extent of the delays, but I wanted to inform you immediately of the situation. I will issue an update as new information comes available. In the meantime, I ask that you go to ?My Account? on Overstock.com to view the status of your order.

Last year, out of a million packages sent at Christmas, we were late with 23, and those because a carrier's plane was forced to make an emergency landing due to an onboard fire. I spent last Christmas calling each of those 23 families and apologizing. This year, unfortunately, several thousand packages have been delayed, and far more families are affected than I could call. So I decided to write to all of you at once. I apologize from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for what patience and understanding you choose to grant us, and I remain,

Yours,

Patrick M. Byrne
