Want to overclock a Duron 800 using MSi K7T Pro2-A mobo. Possibly to above 950 mhz. Which heatsink/fan combo would do the best cooling. I am aware of the loudness of the FOP38. That doesnt bother me. I can always replace the fan. I will scraping off the thermal pad on the heatsink and using Arctic Silver instead.

Alpha Pal6035 is a great heatsink. A little on the expensive side, but that doesn't matter!

Any retail h/s will get you to 950 if you have a good core. Different types of air cooling have virtually no advantages in pushing clock speed.

Dude, the FOP 32 isn't only loud, its a poobox of loudness!! Get the alpha6035. It's only a few bucks more, but it's a good investment.

whalen, The FOP-32 isnt that loud! I even have my side panel off my case! I have Duron 600 O/C 1020MHZ and it rocks! You cant beat it from $20.00! Dont get me wrong the Alpha-6035 is suppose to be a good too.

I have both a F0P38 and a Alpha 6035. The F0P38 comes with a "Black Delta" fan that is quite loud at 38 cfm. The Alpha 6035 that I have also has a black delta.
The F0P38 keeps the cpu 2 to 3 degrees cooler than the Alpha 6035.

The Durons use a smaller cache size so they don't produce as much heat as the TBird's do.
The F0P32-1 is the exact same heatsink as the F0P38 with the exception of the fan, it's a 24 cfm .
The F0P32-1 is MUCH quieter than either of the above HSF's and it does a very good job of cooling overclocked Duron's.

i thought the 32-1 using a ys tech 27cfm fan...well the diff between the 32-1 and 38 are small. also the alpha ans the 32-1 are about the same so if price is a thing for you get the FOP32-1. If you just don't care...well the alpha is a good choice too. If i had to choose I would get the alpha but that is me, actually i want a hedgehog...

BuckMaster, sorry, I meant the FOP 38. I've never heard the FOP32 in action, but my old FOP38 was in and out in a matter of seconds. I sold it to my friend who didn't care about the loudness, and bought an Alpha PAL6035 and some ASG. The FOP38 actually is a few degrees BETTER than the Alpha, but I'd be willing to sacrifice that for a peaceful nights rest while cracking RC5.;)

Yes! Got two Taisol 742's (had to cut them a little to fit the K7T pro2-a) running both a D700@1000 and D700@900... Temps never go above 45C. The D700@900 can't reach 950 at all. Boots into Windows but soon after fails. Not a heat problem just the chip. But if money is no object get what you want.

Subversal,

Does the MSI K7T Pro2a use an in-socket thermistor, or some other means to measure cpu temp?
