Is is possible to o/c a K6 III, and if so by how much can you overclock them. I have a K6 III 450. It is a little old but it still works and what the heck if I can get a bit more speed out of it all the better

Thanks

The K6-X series processors are overclockable (ie not locked), but they don't like to be. My K6 II 500 will not POST at anything over 500, but I think that's just a peculiarity of that particular chip. Based on what I have heard from others and what I have done I wouldn't expect much past 475. Good luck.

You could probably get to 500 or maybe 550 tops with regular cooling. Those old k6 chips were most stubborn when it came to ocing. My 350 would only make it to 400 and my 550 would go to 575... so generally it isn't worth your time unless you have success right off the bat

do you have a k6-iii or a k6-iii+? if you have the k6-iii+ chip, then it's most likely that you'll be able to oc the 450mhz chip to slightly above 600.

Had several K6-III systems, and overclocked all of them as long as it dod not exceed 10% of the rated speed. I.e., a 400 ran like a rock at 440. A 500 could handle 550. Etc. This was without any voltage increases. Just bus and multiplier combos.
