NYPD okays Velcro handcuffs for kids

Obviously the problem is in the location; NYC. If there is a real NEED to restrain a child, cuffs are fine, IMO. If my 13 year old son went more psycho than he already is, by all means cuff his ass and keep him from hurting himself or anyone else. Velcro...pft.

meeh, NY kids are some of the worst in the nation. Probably because their rich parents are always working and never raising them, so the kids usually end up spoiled, bratty, and without any discipline. It's a shame that the NYPD has to be called in to enforce discipline when they could've focused their attention on more important things.

Violent tantrum? Awww, did he throw a building block? And then to the fucking psych ward? What the fuck.

More likely he decided to punch, kick, bite and throw things at whoever got near him. There are some pretty screwed up kids.

If a kid is a danger to himself or others I have no problem with them cuffing him.

Somehow I bet there are more issues with kids in poor sections of town than the nicer ones...

Especially if one reads the article:

Starting next month, officers will use Velcro handcuffs instead of the tougher steel model to subdue disturbed or unruly children in 22 schools in northern Queens, according to a draft NYPD operations order obtained by the Daily News.

I can't recall there ever being a need to "subdue" a kid in the school I teach at. Once again, I'm reminded of why I didn't decide to teach in an inner-city.

Well I hear they do a background search there so that's the main reason.

Exactly.

We don't do a background search on the students we allow in my school. (If that's what you meant.) But, if you meant it as a tongue-in-cheek personal attack, yes, they did a background search on me and I came up clean as can be.

So did you pay the person off enough or did you use the ID card you took from the dead hobo?

what do you think? personally i think its a little too much.. kids will be kids

in the past yes, however; today's kids are fueled by parent's instilling the belief that 'gangsta' justice rules. Then you have the group that actively cuts themselves with razors living in great families, but 'hate' their lives.

The 'I am ok, you are ok' child raising stint really fucked up our society. You have more and more adults still relying on their parents for everything. Once these over-shelters die, these kids are going to be our problems.

Personally regular cuffs or zip ties should be used, say a 'kid' is now roadside velcro'd and another kid decides to run up and free him...can they shoot?

fuck it, lets just lock up everybody

It's the only way to make sure our kids are safe.. putting them behind bars. "Land of the free" my ass, though I suppose it makes some sense.. In the nation with the greatest freedom, the worst punishment possible is to restrict said freedom.. Maybe if we weren't so free, we wouldn't need to lock everyone away... No, that's just fucking stupid.

He was dead because I had to kill him to steal his fingerprints too. It was really painful cutting mine off and sewing his on.
