Bikes are supposed to obey traffic laws. Plain and simple.
If you blow a red light on your bike you pay a couple hundred and get to sit in the corner to think about what an ass you are.
Blow a red light in a car, you get the fine and you get points on your license.
High fines for bikes are appropriate since riders don't have to worry about "points".

I agree, except high fines are needed for cars as well. Since you're in a two ton vehicle capable of killing or wrecking damn near anything you hit. Aside from that, good for NYC.

Did you see him pull up? The green arrow probably wasn't going to light for him. He may have already sat through multiple cycles. This is a common problem for bicycles and motorcycles at smart lights. Now who's "impatient?"

It's not really outlandish. The lights won't always change for bicycles, and sometimes motorcycles as well.

It would also help if the NYPD actually enforced bike lanes: encroachment from pedestrians (who think it's a sidewalk extension or just wander blindly into it at intersections) or people that park in the lane, such as the NYPD itself.

This is key. Cities need to move more to curb protected bike lanes and dole out heavy fines/discipline to anyone encroaching who doesn't belong there...government vehicles of all kinds are major offenders.

"Outlandish?" It happens every time I ride. It was the bane of my existence for the four years that I had only a motorcycle for transportation. I *asked* if that was a possibility and YOU created an outlandish story that I created a "story." This REAL problem happens CONSTANTLY in that exact situation.

Even if that's exactly what happened, I'm not saying that it makes it right. I wasn't "defending" him. I'm saying that his frustration and inconvenience pales in comparison to the frustration and inconvenience of the other guy, so the complaint is not nearly as effective as he thinks. Hopefully it helps them UNDERSTAND each other.

You seem incapable of understanding anything you didn't experience, so I'm not sure why I should even bother explaining this to you.
